How to modify System Integrity Protection in El Capitan

El Capitan ships with a new OS X feature: System Integrity Protection (SIP), also known as rootless mode. This reduces the attack surface for malware that relies on modifying system files by preventing any user, whether with system administrator (root) privileges or not from modifying a number of operating system directories and files.

It doesnt eliminate the possibility of malware or folks finding a way to subvert this mode, but it does increase the difficulty of finding a hole to penetrate. All such changes discourage those who hack for profit or destruction, because the more time it takes and the less likely successful, the more often they turn to other operating systems and targets.

However, a few system-modifying and system-extending software programs cant work properly under SIP, as I discussed back in July in covering this feature and a simple workaround available in the public betas. The golden master (final release candidate) and shipping version of El Capitan have a minor change that make it harder, but not impossible, to turn SIP off.

Early reports of problems with rootless mode seemed to indicate that a wider set of software might be unable to work with the restriction enabled, such as SuperDuper! from Shirt Pocket Software. However, Apple made changes during beta testing that resolved concerns with that app and others. (Shirt Pocket had to update SuperDuper! to deal with the omission of an open-source program, which breaks scheduled updates; those have to be re-created in the El Capitan-compatible release.)

At the moment, only a few widely used utilities wont work with SIP enabled:

  • Default Folder 4.7 from St. Clair Software. However, developer is hard at work on version 5, which wont need to bypass SIP. Its expected out as early as the end of October, and is free to new purchasers of 4.7 from this point on.

  • BinaryAge will discontinue new development on its TotalFinder software that enhances the Finder, which will have some features missing. It will keep supporting TotalSpace2, a desktop spaces manager, but that app will require disabling SIP to function.

Rogue Amoeba has opted to discontinue Intermission, which it says wasnt one of its big sellers, as it is incompatible with SIP, and incorporated its functionality into Audio Hijack.

There were previously concerns about a few utilities that have been resolved:

  • Surtees Studios Bartender 1.3a menu bar app organizercould work with SIP using a round-trip to Recovery with two restarts (disable, install, enable), but the developers were able to finish Bartender 2.0 in time for El Capitans release. The new version is fully compliant within SIP.

  • Disk Sensei 1.2 and Trim Enabler 3.1 from Cindori now work without rootless turned off; earlier versions did not.

  • Both SuperDuper! and Carbon Copy Cloner work with SIP enabled.

Disabling rootless mode in El Capitan beta required just selecting a menu item after booting into the Recovery disk. Now, its slightly more involved with El Capitan.

Warning: The point of SIP is to prevent malware and other unwanted modifications into system files. Consider whether or not you want to dispense with this protection.

For the following to work, you must have a proper and up to date Recovery partition on your boot drive. While that should be a given, its possible to clone a startup volume without Recovery installed.

From the Utilities menu in Recovery select Terminal.

Use the Terminal in Recovery to enter the SIP-disabling command.

Follow these steps to disable SIP:

  • Restart your Mac.
  • Before OS X starts up, hold down Command-R and keep it held down until you see an Apple icon and a progress bar. Release. This boots you into Recovery.
  • From the Utilities menu, select Terminal.
  • At the prompt type exactly the following and then press Return: csrutil disable
  • Terminal should display a message that SIP was disabled.

Believing the news to be true, many heartbroken Sandler fans posted condolence messages on social media.

Starbucks" take on National Coffee Day: 1 million free coffee trees

The coffee Goliath"s rivals are taking the more traditional route, seizing on the made-up holiday (carpe diem!) to promote their joe by giving it to customers.

Dunkin" Donuts (DNKN), the granddaddy of coffee, is handing out free coffee to members of its DD Perks Program. A visit to a Dunkin" Donuts in Manhattan showed a sign in the window advertising its National Coffee Day deal and a crowd spilling out onto the sidewalk.

Wawa is also giving out free coffee, of any size, to any customer who wants it. Krispy Kreme (KKD) is giving out free small coffees and glazed doughnuts, along with $1 discounts on other drinks.

A sign in a Manhattan Dunkin" Donuts advertised its National Coffee Day deal.

A visit to a Starbucks (SBUX) in Manhattan showed business as usual, with a long line of customers but no sign of the High Holy Day for caffeine.

Starbucks will donate 70 cents -- the price of one coffee tree -- to coffee farmers for every bag of joe purchased by customers in U.S. stores. Starbucks purchases its beans from farmers in more than 30 countries.

The effort aims to alleviate a twofold problem for coffee farmers: aging trees and a fungus called "coffee rust" that slows or kills production of coffee cherries. The company said this has gutted coffee production by 50% in some areas and is particularly bad in Guatemala, El Salvador and also Mexico.

Starbucks is jump-starting the program by giving away one million trees.

This is a departure from last year, when Starbucks took a more traditional route by offering free samples of its Anniversary Blend.

The Walking Dead season 6: Actress Melissa McBride teases Carol"s character ...

The Walking Dead season 6 premiere is just a few days away and we are all waiting to know how things unfold in the Alexandria Safe-Zone post the intense season 5 finale. Actress Melissa McBride, who plays Carol on the hit zombie drama, recently spoke about her character and what fans can expect to see when the show returns with its new season.

"The conflicts that suddenly arose there [Alexandria] at the end of the finale in season 5, we"re going to find out how people are relating to their different points of view, and seeing how the loss of Reg affected Deanna and her point of view, and the threat of the walkers. So I think really everyone"s point of view is challenged and we"re going to see how that all pans out," McBride told Entertainment Weekly.

Teasing her character"s arc in season 6, the actress said that the "unaware" Alexandrians will get to see her other side in the upcoming episodes. "When we left off in season 5 the Alexandrians were still unaware of her little undercurrents," Mcbride stated. "So, I think when we get back there"s going to be the Alexandrian Carol and then she"s still got work to do. So we"ll see her other side."

The official synopsis reveals that season 6 starts with Alexandria"s safety shattered by multiple threats. To make it, the people of Alexandria will need to catch up with our survivors" hardiness while many of Rick"s people will need to take a step back from the violence and pragmatism they"ve needed to embrace. These reversals won"t happen easily, or without conflict.

But now Rick"s group is fighting for something more than survival. They"re fighting for their home, and they will defend that at any cost, against any threat, even if that threat comes from within. The synopsis for the season 6 premiere episode has also been revealed. The episode is called First Time Again and the plot is described as follows: "Rick and the group are still having trouble assimilating into Alexandria. Will a new threat bring them closer together or drive them further apart?" The Walking Dead season 6 will premiere on 11 October 2015 on AMC with a 90-minute episode.

Government shutdown could put military paychecks on the line

Troops may miss paychecks and civilians may be kept at home if Congress doesn"t act to prevent a government shutdown later this week.

A memo from Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work last week outlined the steps the military would take if Congress doesn"t pass a 2016 appropriations bill by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, when the federal fiscal year ends.

Work said he and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter hope Congress will provide an appropriations bill or continuing resolution to prevent the shutdown.

"The administration is willing to work with the Congress to enact a short-term continuing resolution to fund critical government operations and allow Congress the time to complete the full year 2016 appropriations," he said in the Friday memo.

Work said a potential shutdown would not affect overseas operations, such as those in Iraq or Afghanistan.

He said other operations, "necessary for the safety of human life or the protection of property" also would continue.

And while active-duty military personnel will continue in a "normal duty status," Work said those troops would "not be paid until such time as Congress makes appropriated funds available to compensate them for this period of service."

However, any delay in pay would not affect checks scheduled to be sent on the day the potential shutdown begins, Oct. 1, as those will have been processed this month.

In response to the potential for missed paychecks, at least one bank with local branches is offering relief.

USAA officials said they will offer no-interest payroll advance loans to military customers in the event of missed pay days.

On Fort Bragg, some officials said they were waiting for guidance on what to do in case of a shutdown.

On Pope Field, the Air Force is recommending active-duty airmen work, while civilians in non-essential jobs be furloughed.

There are five major Air Force units at Fort Bragg"s Pope Field: the 43rd Airlift Group, 18th Air Support Operations Group, Air Force Combat Control School, 21st Special Tactics Squadron and the Reserve"s 440th Airlift Wing.

Marvin Krause, spokesman for the 43rd Airlift Group, said the Air Force is planning to operate under a range of different scenarios, including a government shutdown.

"Although we hold out hope for a budget resolution, proper planning will occur to ensure appropriate preparedness for the range of scenarios," Krause said.

Civilian personnel who are required to work will be treated the same way, while others will be furloughed.

The potential shutdown comes two years after the last government shutdown, which lasted 16 days in October 2013.

During that shutdown, half the roughly 14,500 civilian workers on Fort Bragg were put on indefinite furlough, and soldiers and their families were forced to curb spending in the face of unknown delays to their paychecks.

The shutdown also led to backed up maintenance at Pope Field, grounding planes longer than usual, and prevented local National Guard, Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve troops from training.

Other possible effects of a potential shutdown this year include stopping travel and conference participation by members of the military and halting the renewal or extension of contracts.

Work"s memo also outlined potential stoppages in regards to procurement and military construction, if it involves appropriations that lapse at the end of the fiscal year.

The memo did not direct specific shutdown-related actions.

"The secretary and I hope that Congress will pass a funding bill and the Department of Defense will avoid a shutdown," he said. "This guidance is intended to support prudent planning."

Just the talk of a potential shutdown can slow the local economy, business experts said.

George Breece, chairman of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber, said he hopes a deal is reached to avoid a repeat of the drama in 2013.

"The effects of a government shutdown leaves no one untouched and creates not just a ripple effect, but a tsunami on local economies everywhere," he said. "Families are drastically affected, businesses get slammed and the real sad part is when the shutdown is over it takes time for people and businesses to gain their financial confidence back moving forward."

At least two businesses in Spring Lake echoed that sentiment.

Martin Mancuso, a salesman at Guns Plus, said about 60 percent of the store"s business is tied to military or civilian defense employees. He remembers the dip in sales during the shutdown two years ago.

"People are a bit more cautious with their money," he said. "We know it will ultimately reopen, people just tighten their belts for a little bit."

Jery Howland, owner of Jery"s p**n on Bragg Boulevard, said he also remembers the slowed business during the shutdown.

He said it"s nothing to get worked up over, though.

"I have no control over it," he said. "I don"t get overly excited about it."

Definitions:Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.-Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.-Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)Time Shifted Viewing Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data Live, Live+Same Day(Live+SD)and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day(Live+SD)include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Drew Brees meets with Dr. James Andrews, receives "very positive" feedback ...

Drew Brees again met with orthopedic surgeon surgeon Dr. James Andrews to have his shoulder re-evaluated on Monday.

The meeting took place in Birmingham and Brees reportedly received very positive feedback, according to ESPN. The Saints quarterback also met with Andrews last week.

Brees missed Sundays loss tothe Carolina Panthers after suffering a bruised rotator cuff against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during a Week 2 loss. Coach Sean Payton said Monday that he remains day to day.

ESPN also reported that Brees is rehabbing with therapist Kevin Wilk, who worked with the quraterback after he had surgery on his shoulder in 2006.

The Saints play the Cowboys at home on Sunday night. If Brees is unable to play, Luke McCown will likely start in his place.

Ben Roethlisberger out about a month, other NFL news

Especially in this fantasy-fueled age, the NFL knows its product is at its most popular when face-of-the-franchise quarterbacks are throwing for gobs of yards and TD after TD.

So when guys such as Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo and Drew Brees are missing time with injuries, the league might think it needs to try something new to protect QBs. Here"s the problem with jumping to the conclusion that leaky offensive lines are to blame: Heading into Monday night, games are averaging only 3.98 sacks, tied with 2010 for the second fewest through Week 3 since 1970, according to STATS.

Pittsburgh"s Roethlisberger, a two-time Super Bowl champ, was the latest high-profile passer to go down, hurting his left knee in the third quarter of the Steelers" 12-6 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

"I"ve never seen him down," receiver Antonio Brown said about Big Ben, "so I was a little shocked."

Roethlisberger reportedly could miss about a month. That"s about half as long as the Dallas Cowboys might be without Romo, whose collarbone was broken last week. No surprise here: Without Romo on Sunday, Dallas lost for the first time this season.

The New Orleans Saints played without Brees, who has a shoulder problem; they lost, too. The Chicago Bears didn"t have Jay Cutler and not only did they lose, but, boy, was it ugly: They punted all 10 times they had the football.

Then again, the Saints and Bears are a combined 0-6, so it might not really matter who"s playing quarterback.

NBC must be thrilled about its potential prime-time QB matchup next week: New Orleans" Luke McCown (if Brees can"t return) against Dallas" Brandon Weeden. Got to set the DVR for that one, right?

In case you missed it, here are other hot topics after the NFL"s third regular-season Sunday:

MEGA-JULIO: There might be a new "best receiver in the NFL" right now not Calvin "Megatron" Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald, but Atlanta"s Julio Jones. His 12 catches for 164 yards and a pair of TDs helped the Falcons beat the Cowboys 39-28 and become the first NFL team to open 3-0 after overcoming a fourth-quarter deficit in each game. Jones gained at least 135 yards through the air in every game the first time anyone has done that. And his 34 catches are a record for a season"s first three games. (By the way, Cincinnati"s A.J. Green isn"t too shabby, either; he grabbed 10 passes for 227 yards and two TDs for his 3-0 club, which beat Baltimore 28-24.)

FLOPS: Baltimore and Detroit joined New Orleans and Chicago at 0-3. One of these is not like the others, though: The Ravens won a playoff game last season ... and they have never been 0-3.

ALL DAY: At least for a day, Adrian Peterson once again appeared to be, well, Adrian Peterson, after missing nearly a full season because of a child-abuse case. He bounced off defenders, sped around them or just plain knocked them aside, running for 126 yards and a couple of scores on 20 carries in Minnesota"s 31-14 victory over San Diego. "Yeah, I think I"m back," the 2012 NFL MVP declared.

TIP O" THE KAEP: Remember back when the zone-read option was all the rage and Robert Griffin III and Colin Kaepernick were in the spotlight? Seems so long ago, doesn"t it? RG3 hasn"t been active this season for the Redskins, while Kaepernick turned in one of the most abysmal performances in NFL history in San Francisco"s 47-7 loss to Arizona: Two of his first four throws results in pick-6s; four interceptions in all; 9 of 19 for 67 yards; quarterback rating of 16.7.

Ben Roethlisberger out 4-6 weeks with MCL sprain

    AP

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss time with a knee injury, but he wont miss as much time as some in Pittsburgh feared.

Roethlisberger was diagnosed with an MCL sprain and bone bruise but no damage to his ACL, a league source tells PFT. Although it will probably be about a week before Roethlisberger has a target return date, hes expected to miss about four to six weeks.

When Roethlisberger went down clutching his knee in St. Louis today and had to be carted to the locker room, many observers were fearing the worst. The way Roethlisbergers leg bent, it looked like it could have been a season-ending injury.

Instead, its an injury that will cost him a month. Michael Vick will start for the Steelers for four weeks, and then Roethlisberger will be ready to lead the team down the stretch.

Who"s not playing for Cowboys: Collins to get first start

Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Davon Coleman (60) and Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle La"el Collins (71) continue to battle despite multiple whistles during practice at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, on Monday, August 31, 2015. (Vernon Bryant/The Dallas Morning News) 09012015xPUB

Matt Cassel, Ronald Leary, Christine Michael, Geoff Swaim, Dez Bryant, Randy Gregory and Jeremy Mincey are inactive today for the Dallas Cowboys against the Atlanta Falcons.

Tony Romo is on injured reserve.

Jason Witten is playing despite being barely able to walk on Monday.

The inactives mean La"el Collins will make his first NFL start.

Leary withstood a challenge from the rookie Collins in camp to retain the starting job at left guard. But Leary missed the game against Philadelphia with a strained groin and is out Sunday.

Mackenzy Bernadeau and Collins alternated at left guard in the win over the Eagles with Bernadeau starting and getting two series to every one for Collins. But Collins graded out higher and will pick up the start just two weeks after being inactive.

"I just want to go out there and be where my team needs me to be and go out and do my job,"" Collins said.

Veteran Jack Crawford is the most likely candidate to start at defensive end in Mincey"s absence.

    Report Card: Southern University

Georgia improved its record to 4-0 on the season with a 48-6 win over Southern University on Saturday, but how well did each position group perform in the victory? Dawgs247 issues grades to each below in our weekly Report Card.

(Photo: Dale Zanine, USA TODAY Sports)Quarterback

Greyson Lambert had yet another efficient and effective week through the air. He only tossed it 10 times but he completed nine of those for 146 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His average of 14.6 yards per attempt shows that it wasnt just d**k and dunk, either. Brice Ramsey also looked good when it was his turn. He completed 11 of 14 passes for 125 yards and led a couple of scoring drives and another that ended in missed field goal. Ramsey did have a couple of mistakes. He missed open receivers twice -- once with an overthrow and another with an underthrown ball. Lambert also had an error in the game. He held the ball a bit too long on a second quarter play that resulted in a sack. Still, it was a very good day.Grade: A-

    Running Backs

The first half was rough for Georgias running backs in a couple of ways. First of all, there wasnt much running room and thats on the offensive line. But the running backs didnt exactly get off to a roaring start, either. Both Nick Chubb and Sony Michel had a couple of missed cuts in the first half that could have resulted in big plays. But it didnt take long for them to get that worked out. Chubb would record a 49-yard touchdown in the third quarter to put him over 100 yards for the 12th straight game. Michel would have an electrifying 58-yard run for a score. Both Brendan Douglas and Keith Marshall would get some action. Each would average 7.3 yards per carry. Grade: A-

    Receivers and Tight Ends

This group may have been Georgias most consistent offensive unit on Saturday. Malcolm Mitchell had another big day with five receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. He also had a long touchdown from Lambert called back because of a penalty. Isaiah McKenzie had the best receiving game of his career with four catches for 74 yards. He had a few grabs in tight coverage. As far as blocking goes, the tight ends had some struggles in the first half but the receivers blocked well on the edge all game. Grade: A

    Offensive Line

This group basically slept walked through the first couple of quarters. There was no running room for the backs and there was more pressure on the quarterback than there should have been. Southern was stacking the box with defenders but it was often a UGA lineman who was getting beat at the point of attack to slow the play down before it got started. The second half was another story as the UGA front five took control of the game and started creating huge rush lanes for the running backs and clean pockets for the trigger men. After a tremendous game last week, it was only a half of one this week. C-

    Defensive Line

While Georgias defensive line didnt lose the battle up front as much as the offensive line did in the first half, it didnt play well, either. Sterling Bailey had a couple of missed tackles on the edge and failed to set the edge more than once, allowing Southern to have some success outside.. Chris Mayes and John Atkins were pretty solid against the run between the tackles but they struggled to push the pocket. The group recovered well in the second half and the young players actually made a number of big plays down the stretch. Chauncey Rivers and Trent Thompson both tallied their first tackles for a loss. Thompson also added a half sack. It was a little better than the offensive line but not by much. Grade: C+

    Outside Linebackers

Jordan Jenkins and Georgias outside linebackers didnt have as big of an effect on the pocket as one would have thought in going against a Southern offensive line that was at a serious disadvantage in regards to size, length, and athleticism. Jenkins had a few pressures, mostly in the first quarter and the second half. Lorenzo Carter also had a few impressive plays in rushing the quarterback and in pursuit. Chuks Amaechi played well against the run on the edge and showed good energy in pursuit. Its the second straight week without big plays for this group but still overall solid play for the most part.Grade: B-

    Inside Linebackers

Leonard Floyd, Tim Kimbrough, and Jake Ganus continue to be active against the run and the pass for Georgia. There were some negative plays for this group in the first half. Southern was having some success off tackle by catching the Bulldogs out of position on the inside, but as the inside backers settled in, Southern struggled to get anything going. Kimbrough tied the team lead in tackles with five including a tackle for a loss. Floyd had three tackles and half tackle for loss. Ganus also added three stops. Not a complete game but not a bad one.Grade: B

    Defensive Backs

Georgias secondary was very active near the line of scrimmage on Saturday. Dominick Sanders and Malkom Parrish both registered tackles for a loss while Reggie Wilkerson shared one with Floyd. Sanders is looking more and more comfortable in run support and that shows in the stats with three solo stops. He also had an impressive pass break up. Parrish is also playing really well. Freshman safety Johnathan Abram a few teaching moments when he tried to tackle Southerns ball carriers way too high and gave up unnecessary yardage. Other than that, the group tackled and covered fairly well on the day. Grade: B+

    Special Teams

Well start with the two negatives for Georgia on special teams. Isaiah McKenzie made a poor decision on a second half punt where he muffed it and allowed Southern to gain possession of the ball. Collin Barbers only punt of the day was hurried and only traveled with 24 yards. Otherwise, things went fairly well for Georgia on Saturday. Southern was able to get a couple of kick returns out to the 30-yard line, but nothing significant. The Bulldogs handled the pooch kick well and blocked a punt in the first half that set up a score. Parrish was the one who got a hand on it. Marshall Morgan got back on track with a pair of field goals. One was from 47 yards out and the other was a 25-yard chip shot. He also had four touchbacks. It was a much better showing this week from this group than the past two. Grade: B

Utah football: In Nike territory, the Utes are the Pac-12"s lone Under Armour ...

    AT A GLANCE

    Where Utahs deal ranks

Utah gets $2.4M from Under Armour per year $1.8M in product allowance and $600K in cash. Heres where the Utes rank among other Pac-12 schools for which the information is public record:

    1. UCLA, $7.5M ($4M allowance, $3.5M cash), Adidas; 2. Washington, $3.5M ($2.7M/$700K), Nike; 3. Oregon, $3M ($2.2M/$600K), Nike; 4. Arizona St., $4.2M (breakdown unknown), Adidas; 5. Utah; 6. Washington St., $2.2M ($2M/$200K), Nike; 7. Oregon St., $2.2M (all allowance), Nike; 8. Arizona, $2.2M (all allowance), Nike; 9. Cal, $2.2M ($2M/$150K), Nike; 10. Colorado, $2.1M ($1.6M, $400K, Nike.

    Under Armour schools ahead of Utah 1. Cincinnati, $4.9M total, $1M cash; 2. Maryland, $4.4M total, $1.6M cash; 3. Auburn, $4.4M total, $1.9M cash; 4. South Carolina, $3.4M total, $1.2M cash; 5. Texas Tech, $2.4M, $750,000 cash.

What does Under Armour have in store for the Utes?

Next years Utah football and mens basketball uniforms have already been designed.

But thats about all Under Armour creative director Adam Clement is allowed to say about them.

We have a few tricks up our sleeve, Clement said. Asked to elaborate, he said after a thoughtful pause: Were always looking for opportunities to tell stories about Utah.

In the past, thats meant mountain basketball shorts and football sleeves a polarizing design among Utah fans but one that came at the request of the school. His creative team wanted to know what set Utah apart from other schools, he said, and the U. chose to highlight the mountains.

Clement said it was a particular treat to design the throwback jersey that Utah will wear for its homecoming game against Cal on Oct. 10.

Utah football has a tradition that dates back, but throughout the course of time, theyre one of the teams that really have changed uniforms a lot, he said.

The interlocking U.s on the sleeve are from the 60s, the number styling is from the 70s, the black outline on the numbers is from the 80s and the stripe on the sleeves and pants is the Utah stripe, a popular industry term along with the Northwestern stripe and UCLA stripe.

Clement enjoys working with Utah, he said. Red, white and black is a popular, well-balanced color palette red a color of power, black a color of intimidation that make a bold, aggressive statement.

And Utah empowers his creative team, he said.

We have some partners that just want to be the same. They dont want to change, thats their tradition. Then, we have other schools that really want to have the ability to be different, like Utah.

Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli marries under no-fly zone

    Bar Refaeli. Photo from Shutterstock.com

Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli married Adi Ezra in a traditional Jewish wedding at the Carmel Forest Spa Resort in northern Israel.

Refaeli, 30, and Ezra, 40, a businessman whose family owns the Israeli food importing company Neto ME Holdings, wed Thursday. Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman officiated at the ceremony, which according to some reports had 300 guests. (Others placed it at 400.)

Refaeli wore a gown designed by Chlo. Israeli singer and The Voice Israel judge Shlomi Shabbat sang his popular song The Beginning of the World, according Israeli websites Walla and Mako.

The wedding was preceded by conflict over whether or not it was permissible to impose a no-fly zone over it.

On Tuesday, Israels Civil Aviation Authority announced that it would override the transportation minister, Israel Katz, reinstating the no-fly zone in the 4-square-mile airspace over the site of the wedding.

In canceling the order on Sunday, Katz said he objected to the special treatment for Refaeli and Ezra.

As the person responsible for civil aviation and setting policy, I expect you to fully implement my instructions on the matter, Katz told Feldsho, the Israeli business daily Globes reported. I look gravely on attempts to operate against the instructions and I policies that I have set. The skies belong to the public at large and exclusivity should not be granted for commercial reasons to relevant organizations. Justice must be done and seen to be done.

Five drones, two helicopters and an observation balloon circled the area as part of the wedding including to photograph the affair and to transport the couple to the site, according to Israeli reports. The reports suggested that the request to close the area to other aircraft was a safety issue.

The fake spacesuits in "The Martian" are almost as incredible as real ones

Aidan MonaghanAstronauts, engineers, and fans have praised the "The Martian," a bestselling sci-fi novel, for its scientific accuracy. So if you"re making an equally realistic film adaptation, your spacesuits had better look d**n good.

That"s why Janty Yates, a costume designer for Ridley Scott"s movie "The Martian," worked directly with NASA to create spacesuits used in the film.

"Of course we made a film rather than sending people to space," Yates joked to Tech Insider.

The story follows Mark Watney, an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars. Matt Damon (who plays Watney) and other actors in the movie adaptation had to spend a lot of time dressed up in their suits to make the story come to life.

As a result, Yates had to build spacesuits that clearly showed the actors" faces, were comfortable enough to wear during hours of filming (sometimes in the desert), and didn"t look like hokey, unbelievable imitations. Real spacesuits are "marvelously practical for space travel, walking and working on Mars," she says, "but they"re not practical from a visual sense."

Keep scrolling to see how Yates and others designed two different types of futuristic-looking yet functional spacesuits used in "The Martian," due in theaters October 2.

HomeHow an Orthodox 6-Year-Old Became the Star of "Hotel Transylvania 2"

When five-year-old Asher Blinkoff strode off into the audition room, his father, Saul, was a little nervous.

An old pro of the movie industry, Saul has directed several films himself and worked for Walt Disney Animation Studios before that. He knew what to expect, but to leave his son in a room full of strangers is daunting for any parent.

Many, many talented kids live in Los Angeles, said Saul told the Forward over the phone. You never really know what theyre looking for.

But in this case, Asher had exactly what director Genndy Tartakovsky wanted for Dennis, the half-vampire toddler grandson of Dracula in Hotel Transylvania 2.

In the original film, Hotel Transylvania, Dracula runs a hotel for monsters, and tries to keep his daughter away from its first human visitor. He fails. They get married and have kid, Dennis. In the sequel, Dracula tries to bring out baby Dennis vampire side to keep his daughter at the hotel. (Dennis, an adorable boy with giant ginger curls, clearly takes after his human father.)

Orthodox Jewish Asher, with his yarmulke, fits right in with the rest of his Drac family: which includes famous Jewish comedians like Mel Brooks, who plays Denniss great-grandfather, Adam Sandler, who plays Denniss grandfather, and Andy Samberg who plays Denniss father.

[Asher] has such a great ear, a great personality, a great confidence, and that was the triple threat that made them chose him, Saul said.

Ashers mother, Marion, added: He has an actual sound like an actual kid. She thought he brought that charm of being very genuine and sincere.

This is Ashers first role, and right now he treats acting as a hobby, rather than a prospective career. He still attends Torah day school at Yeshiva, and has the same friends. Overall, his parents have tried to keep him from the limelight.

We dont want him to become too boastful about it, Marion said. [Hollywood] can be all consuming.

We kind of downplay it a little, Saul said. His grandparents are really excited, but his friends dont really know. Hes just like a normal kid.

Asher doesnt even get star struck around his famous colleagues. He knows who Adam Sandler is, but no much more than that. When Saul, Marion, and Asher got their VIP invitations to Adam Sandlers Hanukkah party last year, they had to leave early to make Ashers bedtime.

Once Asher got the role of Dennis, the road leading up to the premiere was still a little bumpy, although both Marion and Saul agreed that the studio was more than accommodating of Ashers position as an Orthodox Jew in Hollywood.

When Ashers family realized that they wouldnt be able to attend the film premiere, which falls on Friday September 25 Shabbat the rap party for the cast and crew on Friday night, or the friends and family screening on Saturday, they contacted the head of publicity who told Marion: Were going to lend you your own screening room. All Marion had to do was tell them how many people were coming.

Whats more, the studio always asked about Ashers kosher diet whenever they provided food for the cast and crew in the recording booth.

Nothing but positive all the way, Marion said of the experience with Sony.

So, whats Ashers secret to childhood fame?

There are a lot of people who ask us, how do I get my kid in that? First of all, your kid needs to be able to step into a room full of people he doesnt know, Saul said, to be confident and share their personality.

More importantly, raising a child who acts requires patience and dedicated time from parents to drive them to auditions, wait for him/her to be called in which can take a couple of hours depending on whether the casting times remain on schedule and then get them to the studio and back if they actually get a part.

When Asher had to rerecord some lines during the school year, his parents would drive him to the Sony lot after a full day of lessons, sometimes literally splash water on his face to wake him, and hustle him into the recording booth to act.

Marion should know how it works by now. After leaving her career at Disney to become a full time mom, shes now raising three children who dabble in the film business. While Asher is the only one so far to be featured as a main character in a Hollywood film, his oldest sister, Meira, coincidentally voiced some of the werewolf puppies in the first Hotel Transylvania film and has provided additional voices for the second. His other older sister, Lielle, has also done voice work in the past.

Its very involved to keep up with their own individual auditions. Its a big investment. They love it. We love it, Marion said.

However, despite the distractions of Hollywood, Blinkoffs always strive to live by the Torah as Orthodox Jews. When they first became observant themselves in their 20s, they did not television, despite working in the entertainment business. Now, Marion and Saul closely monitor what their children watch and make sure it supports with their values. If you find something appropriate it can be very powerful, Saul said. The Torah fills our lives with stories.

Its not easy to live as an observant Jew in a secular world, Saul added. I think Ashers performance and the fact that he went in there and had his Kippah and went in there as a Jew, it was a testament to all of us you can live in the world and live the Torah life.

Marion said, Hes out there and hes getting the opportunity to set a good example and be a positive role model for other Jewish kids.

Hotel Transylvania comes out September 25. Check out one of the trailers for the film below.

Mecca Stampede Shows How Crowds, Usually Calm in Crisis, Can Panic

Continue reading the main story Video Pilgrim Recounts Stampede Near Mecca

An Egyptian woman who was making the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca described how her husband was killed in a stampede in the nearby town of Mina.

By REUTERS on Publish Date September 24, 2015. Photo by Associated Press. Watch in Times Video

Contrary to common portrayals of the madding crowd, people caught in an unfolding catastrophe usually summon their best selves, keep cool heads and look out for those around them, according to decades of research into crowd reactions during earthquakes, fires, floods, bombings and other threats.

It had not been reported exactly what touched off the panic that killed more than 700 people on Thursday near Mecca, Saudi Arabia, or whether deficient crowd-control measures might have been to blame.

Even so, the disaster is a reminder that in some circumstances, the strong social roles that help preserve lives in most crises can break down.

The huge number of hajj pilgrims an estimated two million this year probably played a role, especially since the area around Mecca would not be familiar ground for most of them. Sheer numbers can overwhelm a persons sense of space, of where you are and where you are going.

Theres absolutely no sense of shared infrastructure in such a situation, said Lee Clarke, a sociologist at Rutgers University and author of Worst Cases, a history of crowd behavior in the face of threat and catastrophe. By contrast, he said, you can have 40,000, 50,000 or 80,000 people trying to exit a football stadium at the same time, and people know how to act in that system because theres a shared sense of where the ramps are leading, where the exits are, where the gates are.

Continue reading the main story Map

Maps showing where more than 700 people were killed in a stampede near Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Research by Dr. Clarke and others has confirmed what most people feel instinctively when they are in a tightly packed and nervous crowd: If escape routes are blocked or dwindling, fear begins to color every decision. Caught in the middle of a large enough crowd, people may see no way out.

That was apparently a cause of a mass panic that killed 21 people at a music festival in Duisburg, Germany, in July 2010, Dr. Clarke said. Police officers at the festival tried to reverse the flow of a crowd, and people were trapped near a tunnel entrance, unable to move in any direction, according to reports on the event.

Another instance occurred in Cincinnati before a 1979 concert by the Who. Fans outside the arena who were afraid the concert was starting without them swarmed toward a row of entrance doors and panicked when the doors were kept locked, shutting off any escape for those at the front of the crowd. Eleven people died in the shoving.

The composition of the crowd can also be a factor. Large religious events tend to attract thousands of people who are elderly and have difficulty bearing the heat, the fatigue and the jostling of crowds. Government scientists in India found in a recent study that almost 80 percent of mass gathering emergencies in that country occurred during religious festivals.

In a large crowd, other dynamics that undermine social collaboration can develop, especially when the crowd is culturally diverse and in motion.

One is a surge with no apparent cause. It may have originated hundreds of yards away with a bit of pushing, or even simply people stopping to rest, but it can amplify and reach most of the crowd like a rogue wave, powerful and seemingly random.

Think of being in traffic on the highway, stopping and starting, and theres no accident, no police, no source at all, said George Loewenstein, a professor of economics and psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. In large crowds, especially if theyre somehow contained, a small disruption in one place can cause larger chaos far away, for reasons no one there understands.

Peoples natural instinct toward social cohesion may be weaker in some crowds than others, research suggests. Anthony R. Mawson of Jackson State University found that peoples behavior in mass panic events depends in part on the whereabouts of familiar persons, meaning friends and family.

Their physical presence has a calming effect and reduces the probability of a fight-or-flight response, he concluded, while their absence has the opposite effect.

People who have been caught at packed events like rock concerts know that this instinct can extend to other fans nearby, the clutch of 10 to 20 people who may bond, if temporarily, during a show. The vast diversity of the crowds near Mecca, with pilgrims from all over the world, may make such spontaneous groups less likely to form there.

This is such a heterogeneous mass of people, of all different ages, languages and cultures, Dr. Loewenstein said. Despite the shared religion, communication could have been very difficult.

Little sense of space, no clear escape, rogue waves of motion among people who have difficulty communicating those are conditions when collaboration can turn to desperation, and blind panic can spread.

Fox"s "Empire" Returns Big, Draws Second-Best Rating to Date; "Rosewood" Solid

UPDATE: In rush nationals ordered by Fox, Empire was revised up to a 6.7 in adults 18-49 and 16.2 million total viewers for its second-season premiere. In the demo, that puts it ahead of its two-hour finale average from March (6.5) and only a bit behind that nights second hour (6.9).

Fox juggernaut Empire showed no signs of slowing down in its sophomore season, returning Wednesday to its second best ratings to date. The network dominated the opening Wednesday of the season overall, with itsRosewood, the only series premiere on the night, benefiting from pre-Empire tune-in to deliver solid scores.

ABCs comedy block returned strong, with The Middle and The Goldbergs on par with last year and Modern Family and Black-ish a hearty second to Empire in the 9 oclock hour. CBS Survivor was down a bit but remains potent kicking off its 31st edition.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, Empire averaged a huge 6.5 rating/20 share in adults 18-49 and 16.0 million viewers overall beating the ratings for all but the shows final episode from last season. Its 9 p.m. episode on finale night in March averaged a 6.9/21 in 18-49 and 17.62 million total viewers (and its two-hour finale night average of 6.5 matched last nights premiere).

The show had seen its overall audience grow with every episode during its first season, but that amazing streak came to an end on Wednesday.

Compared with last seasons premiere in January, Empire on Wednesday was up by 71% in 18-49 (6.5 vs. 3.8) and by 62% in total viewers (16.0 million vs. 9.9 million). This is the biggest improvement from season 1 premiere to season 2 premiere for any scripted series since Foxs House in 2004 and 2005.

The demo score for Empire more than doubled the next highest-rated program on the night (3.1 for ABCs Modern Family) and its 38% higher than the No. 2-rated series of premiere week (4.7 for CBS The Big Bang Theory). The only entertainment series on television to have drawn a higher 18-49 rating for an episode this year is AMCs The Walking Dead.

And in total viewers, Empire also towered over the Wednesday pack. Its 16.0 million was more than 6 million viewers higher than runner-up Survivor on CBS (9.6 million).

Leading off Wednesday for Fox was medical drama Rosewood (2.4/9 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) starring Morris Chestnut. Though it hadnt generated much buzz leading into the season, it clearly found an opening-night audience. The 2.4 rating in 18-49 makes it the young seasons No. 4-rated series premiere, behind Blindspot, The Muppets and Life in Pieces. It saw a big jump in the second half-hour (2.7 vs. 2.1 at 8 p.m.), a clear sign of pre-Empire tune-in.

Elsewhere, ABC had to be pleased with its returning comedy block: The Middle (2.1/8 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall), The Goldbergs(2.4/8 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall), Modern Family(3.1/10 in 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall) and Black-ish(2.4/7 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall). Middle and Goldbergs were identical to their demo premieres of last year and topped their final nine episodes of last season.

Modern and Black-ish were down as expected, lower by 18% and 27% respectively from last years opening Wednesday when the competition on Fox was considerably softer (Red Band Society did a 1.1 in 18-49). The 2.4 for Black-ish matches the shows highest rating to date opposite an episode of Empire.

Closing out the night, Nashville(1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) was within a tenth of its year-ago premiere.

At NBC, The Mysteries of Laura(1.2/4 in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) was down 0.3 from its year-ago timeslot premiere but nabbed its top rating since Feb. 25. And Law & Order: SVU(1.7/6 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall) was down from its hourlong premiere of last year; with an expected uptick in the nationals, the vet would have matched its second best score since mid-November. Chicago PD returns for its third season next week, again airing at 10.

CBS again used the opening Wednesday of the season for the premiere of Survivor (2.4/9 in 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) and the finale of summer series Big Brother (2.2/7 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall). With an expected uptick in the finals, the former figures to finish down about 11% from last year and up a tenth from its spring opener, while the latter capped its late-season ratings slump by coming in about 15% lower than last years season-ender (2.6). The Eyes Wednesday dramas, veteran Criminal Minds and newcomer Code Black, bow next week.

CW aired Americas Next Top Model (0.4/2 in 18-49, 1.4 million viewers overall) and the finale of A Wicked Offer (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.5 million viewers overall). Arrow and Supernatural kick off their seasons on Oct. 7.

In late-night, NBCs Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was back as the outright leader in adults 18-49 in Nielsens 25 markets with Local People Meters one night after a visit from Donald Trump had boosted CBS Late Show With Stephen Colbert to a first-place tie. Last nights 1.2 rating/6 share for Tonight, whose guests included James Spader, matched the shows best score on a Wednesday in six months and nearly matched the combined scores of CBS Late Show With Stephen Colbert (0.8/4) and ABCs Jimmy Kimmel Live (0.5/2).

And in households, Tonight (3.0 rating/8 share) finished ahead of both Late Show (2.4/7) and Kimmel (1.8/5). That helped boost NBCs Late Night With Seth Meyers to its highest metered-market household rating for a Wednesday (1.4) in seven months.

In Nielsen finals for the week of Sept. 14-18, Tonight Show won again in adults 18-49 over Late Show (0.99 rating vs. 0.72) while moving ahead of the CBS program in total viewers (3.49 million vs. 2.85 million); Colbert had won in the latter category during his premiere week. ABCs Jimmy Kimmel Live continues to lag both (0.47 in 18-49, 2.18 million viewers overall).

Colbert"s Trump Binge Is A Brilliant Piece Of Media Criticism

As Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have shown over and over, sometimes comedy is the best form of political commentary. On that point, Colberts Donald Trump segment on the inaugural episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was a tour de force.

I promise you, just like the rest of the media, I will be covering all of the presidential candidates -- who are Donald Trump, Colbert starts off.

The CBS host then shows a clip of Trump swearing off Oreos because parent company Nabisco had moved some of its production to Mexico. Cue a bag of Oreos, which Colbert proceeds to turn into a running metaphor for the medias addiction to covering Trump.

One is enough. That is the only Trump story I"ll be treating myself to tonight, Colbert says, shifting the bag under his desk.

Well, maybe just one more, Colbert continues, opening the bag as a clip of Trump sparring with Fusion host Jorge Ramos plays.

Colbert keeps trying to stop himself, but can"t resist just one more ... okay another ... and another. By the end, Colbert loses all willpower and empties the bag of Oreos over his upturned mouth.

The skit is hilarious, but in its absurdity it highlights just how ridiculous the news networks wall-to-wall coverage of Trump has been. In the quest for ratings, no stunt is too trivial. Most recently, it was Trumps hair-pulling gag-- in which Trump invited an audience member to verify his hair was real -- that captured the press imagination.

There are no saints here. MSNBC recently gorged on Trump, replaying the same clip of Meet the Press host Chuck Todd with the reality TV star in his private plane so many times it made you wonder if someone needed to stage an intervention. CNN, for its part, blew off Anderson Coopers moving documentary about Hurricane Katrina for a Trump press conference in which nothing happened. At first a Trump booster, Fox Newsended up begging the businessman to ease off his attacks on debate moderator Megyn Kellybefore resuming the 24-hour Trump-a-thon.

The broadcast (i.e., non-cable) news networks are no better. An analysis from CNN media reporter Brian Stelterfound that Trump received more coverage on the nightly newscasts at ABC, CBS and NBC than all the other presidential candidates combined.

The medias Trump addiction isnt harmless. Not only does Trump coverage crowd the airwaves, leaving less time for more serious political candidates; it has a direct influence on the political process. As John Sides showed at The Washington Post, Trumps rise in the polls happened onlyafter the media binged on Trump. In the end, the country might very well end up with Trump as the nominee thanks to feckless TV producers who couldntkeep the Oreo bag closed.

Man"s reaction to sunfish is perfect Boston

At first, he thought it was a sea turtle.

Then, upon closer inspection, he was sure that what he was witnessing was a baby whale.

In the end, he said, it was nothing more than a sunfish, flapping its fin as it swam near the surface of the water in Boston Harbor.

But for Michael Bergin it didnt matter what the creature was it was the craziest thing he had ever seen in his entire life.

In a now-viral Facebook video posted by Bergin last week, the 41-year-old Malden resident lets off a tirade of expletives as he and a friend come across what he describes as a seven-foot, 800-pound fish floating in the greyish water.

Its not a shark, its a sunfish

The video had been viewed more than 250,000 times as of Wednesday morning, and grabbed the attention of radio stations as far away as Atlanta.

Taken aback by his sudden Internet fame, Bergin said Tuesday in a telephone interview that his over-the-top reaction its replete with a quintessential Boston accent and a string of profanities to seeing the large fish was completely authentic.

I aint seen nothing like that in my entire life, bro. I aint even been to the Aquarium, Bergin said. When I see something like that, Im amazed, bro. Its like seeing a gorilla for the first time, man.

Bergin said his excitement about the fish came shortly after he hit the waters with long-time Malden friend Jason Foster last Friday.

The pair launched Fosters boat from the Charlestown Navy Yard before they found themselves cruising the ocean near the Graves Light Station, Foster said.

It was then that they encountered the fishs fin protruding from the oceans surface. It immediately grabbed Bergins attention.

We are witnessing a baby [expletive deleted] whale right here, dude, Bergin screams in the video, holding the camera above the fish. That thing is big!

    Facebook photo

    Michael Bergin

Bergin calls the fish Moby d**k, and gets excited that his ocean find could land him on the news. The video continues for just over five minutes and is laced with swears.

I dont know, man. I went nuts. We didnt know what the h**l it was, Bergin said. It was scaring me to death, it was like a dinosaur. It was so ... ugly.

Foster, who has been fishing since he was 17, wasnt as excited about the discovery, but, like others, found humor in his friends explicit reaction.

Thats how he talks all the time. All he does is swear. Hes nuts, Foster said. He was just spazzing out, and Im just dying laughing.

Foster said the pair tried to hook the fish and bring it on board, but in the end they contacted the Coast Guard to let them know what they had found.

Unabashed and unapologetic, Bergin said he doesnt go out on the ocean much, so he will be sharing the ugly fish encounter video with people in his neighborhood.

Now I have the biggest fish story for life, kid, he said.

Hes also basking in his instant online fame, all thanks to a fish.

Its going viral all over the computer, bro, Bergin said. It feels a little good. I cant believe its going viral like this, but I promise you, buddy, that video is so real you wouldnt even know.

USA Today Sports" Lorenzo Reyes explains what impact Chancellor"s return will have in Seattle and around the NFL. USA TODAY Sports

RENTON, Wash. (AP) Kam Chancellor has ended his holdout and reported to the Seattle Seahawks after missing training camp and the first two weeks of the regular season.

The Seahawks confirmed that Chancellor arrived at the team facility on Wednesday morning. It was his first appearance since June"s minicamp and ended a holdout that lasted nearly eight weeks. The Seahawks are 0-2 after losses to St. Louis and Green Bay. KIRO-AM in Seattle first reported Chancellor"s return.

Chancellor has potentially lost more than $2 million with a holdout that appears to have not resulted in a new contract. It is not clear how much he will be fined.

In a text to ESPN, Chancellor wrote that he intends on dealing with his "business" after the season and that it was time to go help his teammates.

Chancellor"s agent, Alvin Keels, posted on Twitter that he was glad to see Chancellor back at work and, "The business side of the sport sucks at times. Some will understand it most won"t!"

Seattle will have a two-week roster exemption for Chancellor, but he must be added to the active 53-man roster at least 24 hours prior to kickoff to play either this Sunday against Chicago or Monday, Oct. 5, against Detroit.

Chancellor was seeking a restructuring of his current contract to have future money paid sooner. It was part of a $28 million, four-year extension he signed after the 2012 season, but didn"t take effect until 2013. The Seahawks refused to budge on restructuring a contract that had three years remaining, believing it would lead to a stream of players seeking new deals in the early stages of their contracts.

Chancellor, one of the league"s top safeties and a leader of the "Legion of Boom" secondary, is scheduled to make $5.1 million in base salary in 2016 and $6.8 million in 2017.

Defensive end Michael Bennett was in a similar situation, unhappy with his four-year contract he signed prior to the 2014 season, but decided to report for training camp and not hold out.

"In the NFL, one year you can be great, the next year you can be bad, so I just worry about the money situation," Bennett said last week. "When you"re losing money in this league, you don"t get a chance to make as much money. Your earning power is now."

Seattle started Dion Bailey at strong safety in the opener then switched the lineup and went with DeShawn Shead there against Green Bay.

Forget about Bradley Cooper! The Limitless TV series will have a Dexter reunion

Never mind that Bradley Cooper cameo! Limitless has a major TV reunion in the works.

CBS"s spinoff of the Hollywood blockbuster will reunite Limitless regular Jennifer Carpenter with her former Dexter co-star Desmond Harrington.

Harrington famously played Debra Morgan"s (Carpenter) troubled cop boyfriend Joey Quinn for six seasons on Showtime"s serial killer drama.

The actor will be romancing Carpenter again this autumn in Limitless for a potentially recurring role as FBI SWAT team specialist Casey Rooks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Casey Rooks is brought in by the bureau to train new recruit Brian Finch (Jake McDorman), whose mind is expanded thanks to a mysterious drug.

While he"s tasked with keeping an eye on wildcard Brian, Casey is also secretly involved in a tryst with the recruit"s boss Rebecca Harris (Carpenter).

Harrington joins the recently-cast Colin Salmon (Arrow), who will play an intelligence officer hired by Bradley Cooper"s character Eddie Morra.

Cooper is slated to cameo in the pilot, with recurring appearances later on also possible.

Limitless debuts on CBS on September 22. Watch a teaser below:

Scream Queens Tops the Parents Television Council"s Worst New Shows

The Parents Television Council is none too pleased with some of the new shows premiering this fall. The watchdog group, whose mission is "protect children and families from graphic s*x, violence and profanity," is pointing a finger at some of the shows this fall they deem too offensive for your television. The group has named Scream Queens, Life in Pieces and Angel From h**l the worst offenders, and has some pretty harsh words about them. Thanks to Scream Queens"s "graphic gore, sexual dialogue, and a deeply disturbing tone...this show"s greatest shock is that it is on the public airwaves to begin with," they say. They also note that Life in Pieces is "larded with wall-to-wall s*x and scatological "humor,"" and that Angel from h**l features Jane Lynch"s "patented obnoxious bully schtick."Ouch.TV Battleground: Red states want Heroes Reborn, Blue states can"t wait for SupergirlBut don"t worry, it"s not all hate. The PTC is singing the praises of Supergirl"s "cheerful and upbeat" tone, The Grinder and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Though that last one is more or less on probation for the pilot"s "questionable" language. "Judging from the first episode, the program does have the potential to be a positive family show," the group says, "but whether the program will follow that path, or go down a more explicit one, has yet to be seen.Take a look at everything the group had to say about the new series.VIDEO: Abigail Breslin explains the 5 stages of reading a Scream Queens scriptPage 2 of 2 - Other Links From TVGuide.com
