Steven Gerrard believes Manchester United must sign an experienced striker in January.

The Red Devils drew a blank for the seventh time this season in the Premier League as they failed to beat Chelsea at Old Trafford.

Despite the much-improved display, it was a familiar tale for United as the pressure on Louis van Gaal continues.

And whether the Dutchman is in charge or not, Gerrard knows where they must improve in the transfer window.

"Manchester United still need something for me," he told BT Sport.

"I think they need an extra striker because there"s still too much pressure on Wayne Rooney.

"Martial is very young, Depay is very young, I think they need an extra striker to come and help Wayne Rooney with the goal burden."

United sold Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez in the summer, while James Wilson has since been allowed to join Brighton on loan.

After the draw with Chelsea, Van Gaal insisted there was no reason for him to quit as United boss.
