After an interesting press conference prior to the commencement of the NBA season and a woeful start to the 2015-16 Season, there is speculation that Derrick Rose may be leaving the Chicago Bulls this season or in free agency, lets delve into this rumor...
Derrick Rose statement: "Making sure my family is financially stable, as far as seeing all the money that they"re passing out in this league. Just telling the truth. Just knowing that my day will be coming up soon, and it"s not for me. It"s for P.J. and his future, so that"s what I"m thinking about right now. I"m preparing for it.""
So basically what Derrick Rose hinted at in this statement is that he wants to ensure that he earns enough money to support his family and guarantee financial stability for years to come... He later went on to say that he would prefer to stay in Chicago, but he is also wanting to ensure he gets looked after salary-wise.
Correct if I am wrong but Derrick Rose is currently earning 20+ million dollars per year from the Chicago Bulls and probably twice that from sponsors and endorsements each year too. So isn"t it safe to say that he is earning enough at the Bulls to make sure his family is financially stable?
In the eyes of Rose himself... No it isn"t. Hopefully he can come to his senses and realise he has it pretty good in Chicago. Being the 9th highest paid player in the NBA and having a huge fanbase in Chicago might not be enough for him. We will have to wait and see...
So that has dealt with the free agency side of things, but what about a trade? I don"t think this could be ruled out of the picture. There is no denying that Rose hasn"t had an ideal start to the season (his last 3 games he has scored under 10 points) and he is struggling to find his role on a stacked and much-improved Bulls lineup. It is clear that the tides are shifting over in Chicago. Jimmy Butler appears to have taken over the Bulls team and Rose is no longer there go to player anymore.
That is why it could potentially make sense for Chicago to shop Rose during this season, before his trade value diminishes even further, or before he leaves through free agency.
The Bulls could definitely get some young talent into Chicago for Rose, or get a strong wing player or point guard which they would desperately need to contend for a Championship this season or the next...
It will definitely be interesting to see how this one plays out. Rose to go? Or will he remain in Chicago...
