Google is celebrating the saxophone today, devoting its homepage to the musician and instrument maker Adolphe Sax. Born on this date in 1814 in Belgium, both of Saxs parents were instrument makers as well.
The saxophone is one of many instruments made by Adolphe Sax. He also is credited with designing the saxotromba, the saxhorn and the saxtuba.
Sax was highly creative and had a deep understanding of brass and woodwinds. He started tinkering with instruments of his own, and upon bringing together the body of a brass and the mechanics of a woodwind created a hybrid that would revolutionize music.Google Doodle BlogThe Adolphe Sax Doodle has replaced the Google logo on Googles homepage around the world, and leads to a search for Adolphe Sax.
Doodler Lydia Nichols created a series of Google Doodle sketches featuring Sax with his various musical instruments, along with an illustration of a Sax-inspired Googlehorn.
