"Who knew that an innocent photo with my nieces would turn into this?" Ariel captioned a photo of a woman whose exposed legs are covered in terms that are often used to shame girls and women, like "s**t," "asking for it," and "prudish." She continued, "The height of a girl"s skirt or whatever she is wearing for that matter, does not imply what she is asking for."
Well said, Ariel. It"s unfortunate that a fun-in-the-sun day pic has been met with such negativity, but on the flip side, it results in young stars using their platform to foster a sense of sisterhood among girls and women who may struggle to maintain to their confidence when faced with sexist insults.Hearing Ariel open up about her breast reduction surgery and the personal struggles she endured leading up to it makes her a shining example of someone who refuses to be shamed into shying away from her embracing her awesomeness, and for that, she is officially on our "Shero" list.
