Padres president and CEO Mike Dee, executive chairman Ron Fowler and co-owner Tom Seidler will be in Cincinnati over the next few days to observe the All-Star festivities. The three headline a group which hopes to get insight on hosting the event as San Diego plays hosts to the Midsummer Classic next year.
Dee acknowledged to MLB.com that the events in Cincinnati will only serve as a template for how things might go down in San Diego. Considering the usually gloriously sunny San Diego weather, Dee said, "There will probably be more a bias toward outdoor events.
He also highlighted some unique local qualities of the city which the group would probably look to take advantage of. Dee said:
"The military influence, you can expect that to have a major presence in the programming of the game...And our proximity to Mexico and the international border provides an opportunity for baseball to internationalize this game like no other.
