Pete Rose meets Commissioner Manfred for first time

Pete Rose met Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred for the first time Tuesday in a holding room for the four members of the Cincinnati Reds Franchise Four, the top four living players in team history.

Rose, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Barry Larkin were waiting to take the field for a ceremony before the 86th All-Star Game when Manfred entered the room for a short meeting. Rose has been talking about Manfred, the new commissioner, and his bid for reinstatement for months.

Ive never talked so much about a man Ive never met, Rose told reporters moments later as he walked down the tunnel toward the field at Great American Ball Park.

Rose, who was banned from baseball in 1989, was honored on the field at Great American Ball Park moments later. Manfred said earlier in the day he planned to meet with Rose in the future about his reinstatement bid. No date for that meeting has been set.
