Updated Monday, May 11, 4:43 p.m. EDT: George Zimmerman was not seriously injured in Mondays shooting incident, NBC Los Angeles reports. According to his attorney, Don West, the bullet shattered Zimmermans window and he was struck by flying glass from his windshield and other debris.

The man who shot Zimmerman has been identified as Matthew Apperson and is reportedly the same person involved in a road rage incident with him last year, during which Zimmerman allegedly threatened to kill him, said Lake Mary Police Officer Bianca Gillett during a news conference Monday.

Zimmerman has already been released from the hospital.

George Zimmerman was shot in the face Monday during a road rage incident in Seminole County, Fla., WFTV.com reports. The incident allegedly took place on Lake Mary Boulevard during a confrontation with another driver. His injuries are reportedly minor.

In March of this year, Zimmerman said that G*d was on his sidein 2012 when he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a gated community in Sanford, Fla.:

As a Christian I believe that G*d does everything for a purpose, and he had his plans, and for me to second-guess them would be hypocritical and almost blasphemous. ... Had I had a fraction of the thought that I could have done something differently, acted differently so that both of us ... survived, then I would have heavier weight on my shoulders, that sense in the back of my mind. But in all fairness, you cannot as a human feel guilty for living, for surviving.

He was acquitted in Trayvons death in 2012. In February of this year, the Department of Justice declined to press civil rights charges against him in the shooting.

Zimmerman has had a series of run-ins with the police since that time. He was arrested on domestic violence charges in January of this year and charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence with a weapon.

As previously reported by The Root, in November 2013 he was arrested at his girlfriends home and charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence battery and criminal mischief. The charges were dropped at her request.

This story is developing.
