Even with the best dress in the world, without equally inspiring hair and makeup choices the whole look can be let down.
The 2015 Met Gala presented some real shockers in the fashion stakes with more attendees choosing a headline grabbing ensemble over style. The beauty looks however, were largely more low key.
With some exceptions; Cara Delevingne is no wall flower so it's not a surprise that the model arrived at the event clad in a Stella McCartney jumpsuit and covered in temporary tattoos.

The floral designs were created on photoshop before being applied to skin using stencil and markers - a makeup artist then finished the look with a matte sealer to prevent the artwork from smudging.
Actress Katie Holmes chose the event to show off a daring new look, the normally long-haired star arrived at the event with a short bob and fringe and even teased fans with an image on Instagram with the caption "chop chop." However the hairstyle was revealed to be a clever wig with her signature long locks still safely in place.

Actress Reese Witherspoon opted for the latter, with makeup artist Molly Sterns for Nars Cosmetics creating a look she describes as "modern and crisp."
"I wanted Reese to have a super clean, bright complexion with bold features, so I paired intensified brows with shadowed liner, which framed Reeses gorgeous blue eyes and allowed her glowing skin to shine." Sterns explained.
For Amal Clooney's first Met Gala appearance the lawyer and activist turned to makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury to put together her classic Hollywood glamour makeup look which consisted of eyeliner, emphasised brows, a sweep of bronzer and a classic red matte look lip.

Smoky grey eyes finished with lashings of mascara and a matte lipstick in dark wine made for the centre point of her look.
