Your Thoughts on 'Beyond the Lights' Now That It's in Theaters?

Sat Nov 15 12:13:25 EST 2014

Given how much we've covered it over the weeks, I'm sure you're all fully aware that Gina Prince Bythewood's latest effort, "Beyond the Lights," which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Nate Parker, opened this weekend. We interviewed the filmmaker here; interviewed the star actress here; and the lead actor here; and Nijla reviewed it here, after its premiere at the Urbanworld Film Festival in September.

And now that you all are able to finally see it, have you? I know the weekend isn't over yet, but I thought I'd get an early start, so that as you do see the film, you can come here and share your thoughts on it.

So, if you have seen it, what did you think of it? If you haven't seen it, do you plan to do so, and if not, feel free to share why in the comments section below.

The BET/Relativity Media-backed film from writer/directorGina Prince-Bythewood, tellsthe story of Noni Jean, a hot new artist who has just won a Grammy and is primed for stardom. But the pressures of success compel her to nearly end her life until she is saved by a young police officer. They fall hard for each other, despite the protests of their parents who want each to focus on their own career ambitions. But he might be the missing piece to unlock her artistic potential.

Danny Glover, Minnie Driver, Aisha Hinds and Aml Ameen, join Mbatha-Raw and Parker in front of the camera.

"Beyond the Lights" is released theatrically by Relativity. The studio opened the film on a healthy 1789 screens, so it's likely playing at a theater near most of you.
