CBS has a "Supergirl."

Actress Melissa Benoist, known for her role as Marley Rose on "Glee," will star in the upcoming series based on the character from DC Comics.

The series will focus on Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, who escaped from Krypton amid the planet's destruction years earlier. After arriving on Earth she initially hides her superpowers, but eventually decides to embrace them -- turning her into a hero.

Benoist tweeted about the news on Thursday:

The 26-year-old Colorado native made her film debut in "Tennessee" in 2008 and appears in the Oscar-nominated film "Whiplash." She'll next be seen in "The Longest Ride" with Scott Eastwood and Alan Alda.
