PHOENIX - As the New England Patriots begin their preparation for the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, coach Bill Belichick cant stop thinking about Roger Staubach. In watching Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, Staubach has become Belichicks frame of reference.
"He kind of reminds me of watching Staubach, Belichick said during a Tuesday morning conference call. "I remember a lot of Staubach's spectacular running plays where it looked like he was about to get tackled by three or four guys, and he would Houdini it out of there somehow. You see Wilson doing some of the same things.
Belichicks father, Steve, coached at the Naval Academy when Staubach was a player and won the Heisman Trophy. The Dallas Cowboys Hall of Famer has been a longtime favorite of Belichick, who would often attend Navy practices growing up.
