Stephen A. Smith On Andrew Harrison's N-Bomb: 'Get Over It'

We need to also appreciate the fact it would have been entirely different if somebody white had said that about Harrison or a black player, Stephen A. Smith said Monday after taking to Twitter to defend Kentuckys Andrew Harrison. In case you missed it, Harrison was caught mumbling This n***a about Wisconsins Frank Kaminsky during a postgame press conference Saturday night.

Harrison has since apologized, but the ensuing controversy lingers because America has no idea what to do when a 20-year-old African-American kid working for free says something under his breath that makes us uncomfortable.

it is not meant in the context that an african-american would embrace it as if it were coming from someone white. now, i understand that there are a lot of people in america that are a bit put off about that, they are a bit offended by that notion. what i would implore everybody to do is get over that. that is a reality that youre never going to escape.

If youre incensed by the usage of the word, try directing your ire at the NCAA, who exploits largely African-American free labor for billions of dollars in ad revenue while their families struggle to make ends meet due to systemic racial inequalities. Then you might understand where this kind of racially-tinged language comes from.
