Floyd Mayweather says he'll post Suge Knight's $10-million bail on one ...

LOS ANGELES Boxer Floyd Mayweather and former rap mogul Marion Suge Knight are the best of friends. And with a little bit of luck and some left hooks, that friendship will pay dividends for Knight, currently in jail for suspicion of murder.

According to the LA Times, Floyd Mayweather Jr. plans to pay Knights $10-million bail if he wins his boxing match against Manny Pacquio in Las Vegas this weekend.

Knights attorney Matthew Fletcher confirmed with the Times that Mayweather plans on paying the bail if he wins.

Suge said, Man, I was really going to pull for him to win, but now Im going to have to pray for him to win,' Fletcher told the Times.

Knight pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and attempted murder for allegedly driving his truck at two men. During a hearing, Cle Bone Sloan, one of Knights alleged victims, refused to testify, saying he was no snitch.

The deadly incident happened on January 29, after a flare-up on the set of the biopic Straight Outta Compton, a film about the highly influential and controversial rap group N.W.A. The argument spilled over to the parking lot of Tams Burgers in Compton.

The incident is the latest run-in with the law for Knight, who founded the wildly successful Death Row Records in 1991 and signed artists such as Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.

Knight was driving the car in which Shakur was a passenger when the rapper was shot to death in Las Vegas in 1996.

Shortly afterward, Knight spent several years in prison for violating parole on assault and weapons convictions. That prison time along with Shakurs death, feuds between Knight and a number of rappers, and desertions by Dr. Dre, Snoop and others contributed to the labels bankruptcy in 2006.

At the time of his most recent arrest, Knight was free on bail in a robbery case.

6 things to know about Bernie Sanders

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., speaks at the National Action Network (NAN) national convention on April 8, 2015, in New York.(Photo: Andrew Burton, Getty Images)

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is the longest-serving independent member of Congress in history. He has caucused with Democrats since his days as Vermont's lone congressman, beginning in 1991, but he considers himself a democratic socialist. As he prepares to launch his presidential campaign, here are some other things to know about the Vermont senator:

1. #Filibernie

Sanders gained Internet fame in 2010 with a nearly nine-hour Senate floor speech slamming a deal that included a tax-cut extension for the wealthy as "Robin Hood in reverse."

The Senate video server crashed after Sanders' staff posted a livestream of his speech, known as the #Filibernie on Twitter, on the Sanders webpage. That fundraising quarter, Sanders quintupled his campaign funds. Nation Books published his words in The Speech, with authorial proceeds to go to Vermont charitable, non-profit organizations.

2. His family

Sanders is the son of a New York-born mother and Polish-Jewish immigrant father, who worked most of his life as a paint salesman. He has said his lower-middle-class upbringing in Brooklyn taught him what economic insecurity means to a family. He and his wife, Jane, have four children Levi, Heather, Carina, and David and seven grandchildren.

3. Religious background

He now says he is not actively involved in organized religion. But in terms of economic justice, he said, "I find myself very close to the teachings of Pope Francis." He described the pope as "incredibly smart and brave."

4. Scandinavia influences policy thinking

He believes lessons can be learned from the Scandinavian approach to governing and public policy. Namely, he says the U.S. should adopt the following principles: Treat health care as a right, provide higher education for free, protect the environment and reduce childhood poverty.

5. Odd jobs and early politics

Sanders worked as a carpenter, filmmaker, writer and researcher after moving to Vermont in the 1960s. He ran unsuccessfully for statewide offices several times in the 1970s as a member of the anti-war Liberty Union Party the only party to which Sanders ever belonged before his successful bid as an independent mayor of Burlington in 1981.

6. Recording artist

Sanders admits he can't carry a tune, but that didn't stop him from becoming a recording artist. Tracks that he recorded in 1987 with the former White Crow Studios a studio that recorded early music by the band Phish were re-released last year and are available on Amazon, iTunes, GooglePlay and CDBaby.

The album, We Shall Overcome, features speeches about peace and justice delivered by Sanders as a choir sings 1950s and 60s protest songs.

Farrah Abraham Joining 'Big Brother': 'Teen Mom' Star To Be s*x Icon

Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham returned to MTV with an emotional introduction. Even though Farrah had decided to sign the contract to return, she was quite emotional when the camera crew showed up, despite knowing the producers for quite some time. Maybe it was Farrahs co-stars decision to not support her return that made her sad and upset.

But Farrah Abraham has other television opportunities on her plate. Of course, Farrah already filmed Couples Therapy by herself after appearing on Teen Mom, but it sounds like someone sees great potential in her. This week, Farrah decided to announce that she is joining Celebrity Big Brother in the United Kingdom.

According to a new Daily Mail report, Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham is joining the cast of the upcoming season, but she wont be the first reality star to join this show. A few years ago, The Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt competed on the show alongside some British celebrities. Abraham will be joining the show this summer, and producers are hoping that she will bring the s*x appeal.

Of course, Farrah Abraham is known for much more than Teen Mom and being a young mother. A few years ago, Abraham decided to film several s*x tapes for millions of dollars. But Farrah didnt want the truth to come out about the tapes. She made up a story that she had been dating p**n star, James Deen, and had no idea that he was filming their private moments. But when James denied that story, Farrah had to face the truth and admitted that she had filmed the movies for money.

Her decision to film these movies has gotten little support from her co-stars. According to the Inquisitr, Farrah Abrahams co-stars were not pleased with her decision to return to the show, and Maci Bookout even threatened to leave the show. But it sounds like Farrah would rather choose the money over the acceptance of her co-stars. Maybe producers knew Abraham would accept the challenge to film Big Brother, knowing the paycheck would be big.

Bosses want the show to be more X-rated. Shell add real s*x appeal, a source has revealed about their decision to invite Abraham on this upcoming season.

Farrah Abraham is currently dating Simon Saran, which is the first time in years that Farrah has had a steady relationship. It will be interesting to see how Abraham handles her sexual presence on the show with a boyfriend at home.

What do you think about Farrah Abraham filming Celebrity Big Brother this summer?

Mayweather-Pacquiao breaking business records

Darren Rovell, ESPN.com Sports Business reporter

  • Appears on SportsCenter, ESPN Radio, ESPN.com and with ABC News
  • Formerly worked as analyst at CNBC

The rooms at the Riviera in old downtown Las Vegas haven't been updated in years. Its dizzying carpet screams of the 1980s, and the pictures on the walls of Elvis, Joan Rivers and George Burns do little to excite many patrons these days.

WHERE: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas WHEN: May 2, 9 p.m. ET TV: Showtime/HBO PPV

Fight Credential: Complete fight coverage

On an average night this year, you could have stayed in one of its rooms for less than $80 -- and that includes tax and free parking.

On May 4, the Riviera will go out of business. A superstar of the past that just couldn't keep up with Steve Wynn's big money and the new strip that developed, the hotel was sold for $191 million in February.

But the Riviera will go out in a way most hotels don't -- charging prices next weekend that it could only get on New Year's Eve. And every room is sold out.

People in town to see the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena are paying $379 on Friday and Saturday nights, filling the Riviera's rooms for the last time.

The Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight is looking to generate $72 million in live gate alone, part of a total package that could surpass $400 million.

Ticket priceNumber of tickets*$10,0001,100**$7,5002,500$5,0002,500$3,5004,000$2,5002,500$1,5002,500* Approximate** None available for public sale

Anecdotes about how big Mayweather-Pacquiao is for the Las Vegas economy are filled with excess. But it's places like the Riviera and Hostel Cat, a place where people pay by the bed (it's $60 this weekend instead of the usual $16), that best describe how desperate people are to be in Vegas for the historic event.

Officials with the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority wouldn't confirm it, but it might end up being the single biggest economic weekend in Las Vegas history.

The town's most highly coveted hotels on the strip routinely sell out, but not at the insane markup this market has seen.

"When hotels are filled, there are often conventions, and blocks of rooms are being negotiated at discount rates," said Vanessa Doleshal, business development manager for Vegas.com, an online booking website that specializes in the city.

Doleshal said the site booked 568 hotel rooms for Friday, May 1, on Feb. 20 and 21, when it was clear the fight was going to happen. The two days before that? A paltry 52 rooms.

With five days to go before the fight, the last rooms were being sold at the MGM Grand for $1,600 per night. That's the last of more than 6,000 rooms, which makes the MGM Grand the second largest hotel by room volume in the world.

The superlatives aren't hard to find:

The golden ticket

What it cost to get into the action at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 2.

ESPN

A $10,000 ringside ticket -- and that's just face value. A close associate of one of the fighters was trying to sell a couple of them for $350,000 each this past week.

A secondary market for tickets, with only about 500 released to the public, would have the highest average price of any sporting event ever. Through Sunday night, about 300 tickets had sold on StubHub with an average price of more than $6,000.

Mayweather, on a single night, might clear $100 million.

The cost to watch

Watching the superfight on TV could also be expensive.

ESPN

The pay-per-view cost is $100, beating the previous high (for Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez, on Sept. 14, 2013) by $20.

A weigh-in for the first time ever costing money -- $10 per person -- and more than 10,000 tickets sold out in less than an hour and a half.

Closed circuit tickets at various MGM-owned properties were put on sale Thursday for $150, also a record, and were also sold out -- and that includes many of the 10 hotels having more than one room to show the fight.

Sponsors don't hold back

Companies will have logos displayed on the ring mat and on various pay-per-view graphics.

Sponsorship for this fight surpassed $13 million, according to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael. The beer deal alone with Tecate ($5.6 million) is worth more than any other fight had ever generated -- which is believed to be in the $4 million range.

A couch for six people on the stage to watch Chris Brown perform at Drai's Nightclub in the Cromwell on Saturday night costs a minimum of $3,333 per person.

As the fight draws closer, the concerns center on Vegas itself. Can all this be real? How many rooms were reserved by speculators? How many high rollers are coming to town? Will the ticket market collapse? How will the fact that a single ticket wasn't printed until 10 days before the fight challenge the secondary market, the distributing of the tickets?

This might be Vegas' biggest night ever. And since boxing helped build the desert land into a destination, it's only appropriate that the sport is responsible for it.

More Details On ESPN's Upcoming "WWE: Behind The Curtain" Documentary

- We noted back in March that ESPN's E:60 will premiere their "WWE: Behind The Curtain" documentary on Tuesday, May 5th at 8pm EST. The trailer is above. The following synopsis was released this week:

E:60 Pictures presents WWE: Behind-The-Curtain, a new one-hour documentary film featuring unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Vince McMahon's billion-dollar global empire. The show will follow three amateur wrestlers on their grueling, high-stakes climb with dreams of making it to the big show, complemented by candid interviews with WWE President Vince McMahon, his Executive Vice President of Talent Development, Paul Levesque (or 'Triple H') as well as former WWE talents Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock Dwayne Johnson, and Hulk Hogan. The result is an inside look into what is perhaps the greatest spectacle in sports entertainment with its extravagant productions, flagrant drama, and sold-out arenas.

With flagship show Monday Night RAW drawing four million viewers per week, storied WWE owner and CEO Vince McMahon reveals the reason behind the brand's success: "Talent is the only natural resource we have, without it we have nothing. There's no product. There's no shows. There's no anything."

For decades, McMahon and WWE have created some of the most iconic characters in pop culture -- Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock and John Cena.

But before they become household names, WWE characters are carefully developed in a minor league system, NXT - led by WWE icon and current Executive Vice President of Talent Development, Paul Levesque, aka, "Triple H". It is a backstage world no one has ever had access to until now.

Ellis keeps Mavs-Rockets interesting

Jean-Jacques Taylor, ESPNDallas.com

Close
Jean-Jacques Taylor joined ESPNDallas.com in August 2011. A native of Dallas, Taylor spent the past 20 years writing for The Dallas Morning News, where he covered high schools sports, the Texas Rangers and spent 11 seasons covering the Dallas Cowboys before becoming a general columnist in 2006.

Monta Ellis is petulant and his body language can be profane. He's not the kind of guy you want to be the face of your franchise because Ellis doesn't want the public accountability that accompanies that responsibility.

If you're not careful, Ellis' personality can make you lose sight of how this slender 6-3, allegedly 185-pound dude can dominate an NBA game.

He reminded us once again in Game 4 what he can do on a given night.

Ellis, who scored 34 points in Game 3, scored 31 against theHouston Rocketson Sunday night to help the Dallas Mavericks win their first game in this best-of-7 Western Conference quarterfinal series.

The guy we saw in the past two games can make this series considerably more interesting if he plays the same way Tuesday night in Game 5.

Monta Ellis has scored 34 and 31 points in the Mavericks' last two playoff games.Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

Obviously, it's still a long shot for the Mavs to come back -- no NBA team has ever rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.

When Ellis is the Mavs' best player and fully engaged, something that didn't happen much during the last month of the season, Dallas can compete with any team in the NBA.

The Mavs need Ellis attacking so they can score before the Rockets set up their defense because Dwight Howard, Josh Smith and Trevor Ariza can make it difficult for any offense to function.

"We have to continue to stick with the game plan to attack, attack, attack," Ellis said after Game 4, making his first public comments in 34 days.

"If we get into the paint, we make a lot of great things happen. It's more beneficial to us. It gets us going. It gets a lot of guys involved because the other team has to suck in and we have so many guys who can make plays, shoot 3s and drive the basketball. That's what we want to do."

During a 17-game span from Feb. 11 to March 22, Ellis averaged 15.8 points while shooting 38.4 percent from the field and 21.8 percent on 3-point shots. This from a player who averaged 18.9 points while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 28.5 on 3-pointers for the season.

He struggled in the first two games of the series, making only 13 of 39 shots. He scored 24 points in Game 2 but made just 8 of 23 shots.

Ellis has been aggressive, though, in each of the Mavs' home games.

During the third quarter of Game 4, Ellis scored 12 points as the Mavs built a 24-point lead. The Rockets trimmed the lead to nine with 4:30 left in the game, but Tyson Chandler grabbed an offensive rebound and fed the ball to Ellis at the top of the key.

Ellis drilled a 3-pointer, then turned and punched the air while screaming like a banshee as the Mavs took a 112-100 lead with four minutes left.

"He was relentless. He was nonstop. He had next-play mentality," coach Rick Carlisle said. "Good or bad, he kept playing and charging forward like a freight train.

"That's who he is. He's an attacker through and through, and that's who we need him to be."

That's because Ellis sets the tone for the Mavs' offense these days. Dirk Nowitzki no longer consistently creates his own shot the way he used to when he routinely attacked from the free throw line.

Ellis has that responsibility now. He uses his speed and quickness to attack the lane for a variety of runners, layups and short jumpers.

Ellis' ability to create is one of the reasons that he often takes the final shot. Those opportunities used to be reserved solely for Nowitzki.

"He takes a pounding every night," Nowitzki said. "He's a little guy -- he only weighs a buck 20 or whatever -- and he gets hit every night, but he continues to go in there and make stuff happen for us."

The Mavs need Ellis to do it again in Game 5, or they will be begin their summer vacation.

Corey Crawford named Game 1 starter

Scott Powers, Reporter

Close
Scott Powers is the Blackhawks beat reporter for ESPNChicago.com. He is an award-winning journalist and has been reporting on preps, colleges and pros for publications throughout the Midwest since 1997.

CHICAGO --Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford will start Game 1 against the Minnesota Wild in the Western Conference second-round series, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said Monday.

The starter in Games 1 and 2 against the Nashville Predators in the first round, Crawford was replaced after allowing nine goals in four periods. Rookie Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling started Games 3-6. Crawford had started 57 consecutive playoff games for the Blackhawks before Game 3.

After Darling allowed three goals on 12 shots in the first period of Game 6 on Saturday, Crawford entered the game and stopped all 13 shots he faced as the Blackhawks rallied for a 4-3 win.

  • Here are five keys for the Chicago Blackhawks to defeat the Minnesota Wild in their upcoming second-round series.

  • Goalie Corey Crawford survived a trying series against the Predators, on and off ice, and came to the rescue of the Blackhawks in the Game 6 clincher.

1 Related

Quenneville said Crawford's play in Game 6 went into his decision to start him to begin the series against the Wild. Dates and times of the second round have not yet been announced.

"Great response in a very important game for us," Quenneville said at practice Monday. "All of a sudden, it was a tight game and the game was on the line. He did everything he could. It was a great win for him and for us. He's exiting the series on a real positive note.

"I'm sure it was not easy watching and doing everything he can to get that chance he got. He certainly put us in the position now. It's his net; let's go."

Crawford said Monday that he has moved past what happened in the first round.

"I think I've answered enough questions about that," he said. "It's done. It's done. We're moving on. Me and Scotty are both pushing each other. We want to push each other to be at our best. We're just going to do the same thing we did all year."

So will Crawford be on a short leash against the Wild?

"You don't think like that going into a game ... or a series," Quenneville said. "That's something we've never had to deal with before.

"But I'm fine with our goaltending situation and very confident Corey is going to get the job done."

Crawford admitted the pace of the play in Game 6 against the Predators took some time to adjust to after sitting out three consecutive games. He wasn't worried about being prepared for Game 1 against the Wild.

"I feel like I can get back at it," Crawford said. "We're going to have some tough practices here. I feel fine right now."

Crawford was the Blackhawks' No. 1 goaltender throughout the regular season. He was 32-20-5 with a 2.27 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. In the playoffs, he is1-1 with a 4.19 GAA and .850 save percentage.

The Blackhawks have eliminated the Wild in the playoffs the past two seasons. Crawford started every game in both of those series.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Friday Features: 'The Age of Adaline' review

Hayden Pittman, WFAA Special Contributor 4:59 p.m. CDT April 24, 2015

Michiel Huisman and Blake Lively star in "The Age of Adaline."(Photo: Diyah Pera/Lionsgate Pictures)

"The Age of Adaline," starring Blake Lively, Michiel Huisman, Harrison Ford, and Ellen Burstyn, is a dramatic romance fantasy, oddly reminiscent of a Nicholas Spark film. It features an epic love story, multiple flashbacks, strong lead performances, and it has a quasi-magical twist, of sorts. While there are several peculiar and dubious elements, and there are likely more questions raised than answered, this film is clearly designed for and should be popular to a largely female audience.

In "The Age of Adaline," Lively plays Adaline Bowman, who early on in the story gets into a life-threatening car accident, which she survives, but with a catch: she loses the ability to age. As crazy as it sounds, the accident and a strike a lightning cause her to remain 29 years old for many decades, where she has a daughter, experiences life with a very special outlook, and attempts to keep her distance from those who may learn the truth about her. When she meets and begins to develop a strong relationship with Ellis Jones, played by Huisman, she begins to wonder if a normal life filled with love may actually be possible.

While the plot seems extremely questionable, there are many things to like about this film. Similar to many of the Nicholas Sparks' stories or films such as "The Woman in Gold" or "Saving Mr. Banks," "Age of Adaline" seems to use the technique of telling more than one story through flashbacks and cut away day-dreamlike sequences that the main character experiences. The timeline throughout the film doesn't always feel clear or complete, but it's fascinating to see how long Adaline lives and all she experiences. Her daughter eventually surpasses her in age, and there is a comical scene where Adaline and friends are playing a trivia game; interestingly enough, Adaline knows just about every answer because of everything she has seen in her lifetime.

Blake Lively gives a very strong performance as the main character, and while you can hear Michiel Huisman's true European accent slip through if you're listening for it, he otherwise plays a solid role. Their romantic relationship feels a bit off sometimes, but overall, the love story is what one would expect from a film like this cheesy and forced at times, but heartfelt nonetheless. There are a variety of recognizable supporting actors, such as Harrison Ford, who makes the most of his character, Ellen Burstyn, who plays Adaline's daughter after surpassing her in age, Kathy Baker, and Amanda Crew.

The experience of watching Adaline live her bizarre life keeps the drama gripping. It's not every day that a movie reveals many of its secrets to the audience, but not always to the characters on screen. While watching the film, the viewers know much of truth and get the pleasure of watching everything play out, while also getting treated to a few surprises.

As far as science fiction, fantasy, or the simply unexplainable element of not aging, this concept will raise a few eyebrows. It clearly works in the story and gives the film a different sort of mystery or twist to set it apart from typical romance stories. At the same time, it raises many questions about how it all works. There are points in the story and things that happen that are very coincidental and borderline too good to be true, and as I've mentioned, the timing and layout of everything doesn't always seem fully coherent. Viewers will have to suspend their beliefs on reality for a short time, but I believe if you give the film a shot, you won't be disappointed.

"The Age of Adaline" wasn't my favorite recent film, but every audience receives equal opportunity to see their favorite genre on the big screen, and given that a film such as this appears to be geared for primarily females or couples, it's a refreshing change for certain audiences. Keep in mind that this film will not be mistaken for the best of its genre or even be considered award-worthy, but for what it offers and attempts to do, it's appealing, romantic, magical, and even humorous at times. Overall, I wasn't expecting to enjoy this film, but did find myself entertained and engaged throughout. So, if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, go check it out this weekend.

Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars.

"The Age of Adaline" is rated PG-13 for a suggestive comment. Running time is 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Cecily Strong Takes Down CNN, Fox, MSNBC, Basically Endorses Hillary at ...

Saturday Night Lives Cecily Strong became the fourth woman to host the White House Correspondents Dinner Saturday night. Feels right to have a woman follow President Obama, Strong began, before saying she looks like every ethnically-ambiguous person in Hillary Clintons campaign announcement video.

I took Amtrak here, she told the crowd. It was way more luxurious than I thought. Did you know they have massage seats available? All you have to do is sit in front of Joe Biden.

She saluted the Secret Service, saying, They are the only law enforcement agency in the country that will get in trouble if a black man gets shot.

Strong then went down the list of media outlets, picking them out as she went:

On MSNBC: MSNBC shows so many prison documentaries theyre making Ed Schultz get a teardrop tattoo.

On Fox News: Fox News has been losing a lot of viewers lately, and may they rest in peace That channel is all just hot blonde ladies and all dudes. Every show on Fox News looks at a party scene from Weekend at Bernies.

On CNN: Its comforting to know that whenever a big story breaks, I can turn to CNN and watch Anthony Bourdain eat a cricket. And later, We are really in a golden age of television, but I have to say I still see so many negative or trails of black and gay people out there. I mean, its 2015, and we still have TV characters like Don Lemon? Its ridiculous.

What can I say about Brian Williams? she asked. Nothing, because I work for NBC.

Strong did not hide her affection for Hillary Clinton, especially in comparison to the Republican field. She even made the press in attendance repeat after her: I solemnly swear not to talk about Hillarys appearance, because that is not journalism.

Nightengale: Josh Hamilton wins appeal, loses in reality

Josh Hamilton has $89 million remaining on his contract.(Photo: Mark L. Baer, USA TODAY Sports)

There are certain times in life when you think you win, but the reality is that you really lose.

Los Angeles Angels troubled outfielder Josh Hamilton lost Friday.

Big time.

Oh, Hamilton won his appeal when an independent arbitrator ruled in his favor, delighting him and his agent, along with the Major League Players Association who successfully fought for his rights.

He cannot be suspended by Commissioner Rob Manfred, who certainly planned severe disciplinary measures for Hamilton apparently running afoul of his treatment program.

The ruling permits Hamilton to rejoin the Angels as soon as he's healthy, and perhaps most important, prevents Major League Baseball from taking a single penny of the remaining $90 million the Angels owe him.

Now, without a suspension, Major League Baseball can't require Hamilton to undergo drug or alcohol treatment while away from baseball.

Hamilton is a free man.

He can return to the Angels as if nothing ever happened.

He will have his locker back, his uniform hanging, and return to the baseball field once he recovers from February shoulder surgery.

He beat the system, maybe not on a technicality, but on a decision by an independent arbitrator who ruled that Hamilton never committed an infraction.

It was Hamilton, after all, who turned himself into Major League Baseball in February; CBS Sports and the New York Daily News reported Hamilton's relapse included cocaine use. This is a man who was suspended from baseball in 2004-2006 while with the Tampa Bay Rays, failing six drug tests. Twice, in 2009 and 2012, he had alcohol-related incidents with the Texas Rangers.

Yet, none of that mattered, the arbitrator ruled.

Hamilton didn't violate a darn thing, it was ruled, enabling him to return to the Angels as if nothing ever happened.

Not that they're welcoming him back with open arms.

"It defies logic," Angels president John Carpino told reporters Friday, "that Josh's reported behavior is not a violation of his drug program."

He'll now return with a bigger target on his back than ever. He'll be taunted by the fans, scorned by Major League Baseball, and, yes, even resented by his own employers.

A terse statement released by the club said plenty about how they'll feel paying Hamilton all of his $23 million this season.

"The Angels have serious concerns about Josh's conduct, health and behavior,'' Angels GM Jerry Dipoto said, "and we are disappointed that he has broken an important commitment which he made to himself, his family, his teammates and our fans. We are going to do everything possible to assure he receives proper help for himself and for the well-being of his family."

Yes, that means the Angels want him to get help. They want him in a treatment center. They want him to get his life in order.

It remains to be seen if they ever want to see him back on a baseball field.

Roy Silver, the man who helped mentor Hamilton and bring him back to baseball in 2006, told USA TODAY Sports that he was happy for Hamilton that he won the case.

It's now up to Hamilton whether it's actually good for his well-being, with Silver telling USA TODAY Sports in February that it would be better if he retired.

"He needs to get his life back in order,'' Silver said after it was revealed that Hamilton met with MLB officials in New York after suffering a relapse. "Even three years ago, I told Josh that you might want to consider retirement.

"It seems like he's struggling with things. When you've been given three, four and five chances, and it's still not working, it's best to say, "This is it.'

"His life isn't over, but his baseball career should be.''

Well, the arbitrator made sure Friday that Hamilton's career isn't over. He assured that he won't lose a dime. The decision all but guarantees that Hamilton will be back.

And we don't doubt that the Angels want to help Hamilton; we also don't doubt they'd prefer he go away.

They committed a colossal blunder giving him that five-year, $125 million contract, and now are stuck with him. He's become their version of A-Rod - only with a serious illness lurking in the background, rather than a series of self-inflicted blunders.

Hamilton has missed 84 games with injuries the first two seasons, and has just been a shadow of himself, hitting 31 homers with 123 RBI, and heavily booed during his hitless playoff performance last October.

When he returns, so will the pressure, the expectations and the burden - writ even larger.

"If he's still dealing with all of these mental and emotional challenges,'' Silver says, "it's not going to work.''

"He has never handled expectations well.''

Manfred and MLB argued that Hamilton violated the joint drug program, and were planning to suspend him, hoping he would get some help. Now, they are they powerless.

"The Office of the Commissioner disagrees with the decision,'' MLB said in a statement, "and will seek to address deficiencies in the manner in which drugs of abuse are addressed under the Program in the collective bargaining process."

The trouble is that the current CBA doesn't' expire until December 2016. This won't help Hamilton now.

Now, he's only a p**n in a power game between MLB and the union. There was one lawyer and one medical representative appointed by management and the players association. The lawyer and medical representative from MLB argued that he violated the drug policy, needs to be suspended, and get help. The lawyer and medical rep from the union argued that he did not violate the program.

The only thing they can agree on is that Hamilton's rights were violated when news of his relapse became public, violating the confidentiality provision of the joint drug agreement.

In the aftermath of the arbitrator's ruling, hopefully the two sides can agree that Hamilton has an illness. He needs treatment. Go ahead, let Hamilton take his money. But tell him to stay away from the game. Maybe, even take the rest of the year off.

The Angels don't need Hamilton.

The game of baseball certainly doesn't need Hamilton.

Hamilton's wife, Katie, and their four young daughters - Julia, Sierra, Michaela and Stella - that's who needs Hamilton.

And Hamilton needs help.

Tyga Takes the High Road ... After Blac Chyna Claims He Wants Her Back

Takes High Road After Blac Chyna Claims He Wants Her Back

4/24/2015 6:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

We expectedTygato go on a profanity-laced tirade after his ex,Blac Chyna put his texts to her on Instagram for the world to see -- but instead he's taking a low-key approach ... at least for now.

Blac Chyna posting the texts was her going nuclear in her war withKylie Jenner -- but Tyga is clearly a casualty too. In the messages, Tyga (who is apparently "Kings Father" in BC's phone) begs, "Can I just come for a lil. Just us 3. Do something or spend a lil time."

The direct shot at Kylie comes when he allegedly tells BC he wants "to be a family again" -- and adds, "Want to start this friendship. Relationship."

Tyga responded early Friday morning, writing, "Focus on what's real in life. And surround yourself with people that you really care about.its simple."

Not sure how long cooler heads will prevail in this mess.

Tonight's 'Shark Tank' to feature Cleveland's Sasha Koehn pitching his Buck ...

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland native Sasha Koehnand his business partner,Erik Schnakenberg, will pitch their Buck Masonmade-in-the-USA line of men's jeans, T-shirts and oxford shirts on tonight's episode of the ABC hit show "Shark Tank."

The Co-Chief Executives' task: To convince a panel of skeptical, self-made tycoons to green-light and invest in their Venice, California-based company. The "sharks" have a reputation for tearingapart fledgling businesses they deem unworthy.

The two men already know the outcome of the show, but aren't allowed to say what happened or how it turned out. They will both be watching from Los Angeles; follow along using the hashtag #buckmason.

"It was filmed almost a year ago, so it been a crazy anticipation for our episode to finally air," Koehn, 33, said via email. All he would say is "We pitched our business."

"Shark Tank" airs at 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Central on ABC.

Buck Mason, founded in 2013, sells its clothing online and via one brick-and-mortar store in Venice, California. Its merchandise ranges from 100-percent cotton slub tees for $24, to oxford button-downs for $88, to indigo jeans for between $135 and $155.

"Our 12 oz. 100% cotton denim fabric was loomed in Greensboro, North Carolina, at Cone Mills White Oak factorywhere they've been manufacturing denim for 109 years. They are built to last," the company explains on its website.

The clothes are also available as $247 outfits: "The Bruce" includes a pair of jeans, a white cotton T-shirt, and a white cotton oxford, and "The Buck" includes a pair of indigo jeans, a light blue chambray work shirt, and a white cotton V-neck.

Although not everyone who wants to appear on "Shark Tank" is accepted, "We actually got contacted by one of the shows producers to be on it. I think they were already a customer of ours and felt like we'd be a good fit for the show. We were really fortunate in that I think over 40,000 companies applied this season to be on it," Koehn said.

Koehn was born in Cleveland and grew up in South Euclid. He graduated from University Schoolin 1999 before going on to earn a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Wisconsin -- Madison.

His parents, Norbert and Victoria, are both sculptors and run agift shop and tea house cafe called TheSanctuaryonGreenon Green Road in South Euclid.

Koehn and Schnakenberg, 31, of Concordia, Missouri, met as neighbors in Venice."Erik had this idea in his head for a while about simplifying the men's shopping experience. He has a retail and apparel background and was coming at it from a clothing style standpoint. it was all about ignoring trends and only focusing on the essentials that every guy needs," Koehn said.

"I actually have no background in fashion and came from the tech and media world prior to starting Buck Mason, so all I was thinking about was how this all would look to the end customer and what story we would tell. Fortunately, making a product in America was very important to both of us, and that is what ultimately pushed us to create Buck Mason. We couldn't see ourselves having our clothing made overseas. We just wouldn't be happy with ourselves," he said. "After doing more research into it, we found that less than 3 percent of clothing purchased in America is actually made in America. Buck Mason exists to change this."

Buck Mason is a made-up word. "My partner and I both loved the word 'Mason' because it connects to our fathers, as Erik's was a brick mason and mine is a stone sculptor. 'Buck' was the strongest-sounding word that we felt we could put in front of it," Koehn said.

Their clothing is as much about the attitude as the apparel. "Where we're from, the best dressed man is the one whose character is apparent in the way he wears his jeans," they say on their website.

"Buck Mason was born out of an obsession with standing out by being subtle, buying smart and affirming the true, classic heartland cool that we grew up on. Cool is effortless, stable and poised. It's the never-loud, always honest, unfailing preamble to timelessness. Cool is what happens when a picture of you today resurfaces in 30 years and people say, 'He's still got it.'"

Koehn said his business was "absolutely" influenced by his Cleveland roots. "I think being raised by two self-employed parents who ran a business and studio out of our house gave me a first-hand look into every aspect of running a business," he said.

"It's hard to describe, but growing up in Cleveland kind of gives you somesensibilities that are earned only by just being here."

    'Fast and Furious 8

LAS VEGAS Thursday was showtime at CinemaCon, as 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures went all out for their presentations on the final day of the annual movie-theater-industry convention.

Between the A-list stars, the dancers, the hip-hop legends, and the extended peeks at some beautiful movies, attendees got some particularly big thrills before Hollywood was finally done courting them this week.

    Here are a few highlights.

    Stars and legends

Its a CinemaCon tradition for movie stars to make a very brief appearance paying homage to theater owners and introducing clips from their films before they quickly depart. And Thursday had plenty of that, whether it was Michael B. Jordan and the rest of the Fantastic Four, Chris Pratt with Jurassic World, or 50 Cent, Jude Law, Rose Byrne and Jason Statham talking to Melissa McCarthy on screen to introduce Spy. All were on stage for about two minutes, max, before heading out.

But the most unlikely and perhaps best received stars were Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who spent well over five minutes on stage praising the authenticity of Straight Outta Compton, a dramatization of the early days of their pioneering hip-hop act N.W.A.

    Premium Peanuts

The most extensive introduction was not for the years biggest-budget extravaganza, but rather an animated film about a little boy who just cant win. To promote Peanuts, Fox started its presentation with a DJ who remixed the comic strips classic TV theme, along with a group of high-energy dancers who performed in front of psychedelic visuals based on the Peanuts characters.

The film itself mixes modern computer-generated animation with Charles M. Schulzs classic style and plenty of bad luck for poor Charlie Brown.

    Big sequels get dates

In modern Hollywood, studios declare they are making a movie not by finishing a script or hiring a director, but declaring a release date. Everything else comes later.

And while it seems like a no-brainer that there will be more Fast and Furious and 50 Shades of Grey movies given the success of the most recent installments of each, questions have swirled given problems behind the scenes on both. 50 Shades director Sam Taylor-Johnson left the series after clashing with the books writer E.L. James. And Furious 7 director James Wan isnt expected to return either after a challenging production, adding to the problems Universal already faces with Paul Walkers death.

But Ms. Langley confirmed Thursday that sequels Fifty Shades Darker will come out Feb. 10, 2017, and 50 Shades Freed will be released Feb. 9, 2018, as the studio looks to make both Valentines Day events like Fifty Shades of Grey.

In addition, star Vin Diesel appeared to talk about the success of Furious 7 and announce that an eighth movie in the auto action franchise will be released April 14, 2017.

    Visual stunners

While much of the footage at CinemaCon consisted of extended versions of trailers that have already been released, Fox and Universal gave CinemaCon attendees first-ever looks at several visually stunning films.

At the top of the list is The Revenant, director Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritus follow-up to Oscar-winning best picture Birdman, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and scheduled for release in December. Set in the old West, the movie is being shot in the wilderness entirely with natural light. While theres no official trailer yet, early looks at Mr. DiCaprio on horseback in the snow and on mountains wowed the crowd.

Also impressive was Ridley Scotts The Martian, in which Matt Damon plays an astronaut accidentally left on Mars following an aborted mission. Left to fend for himself on a barren red landscape where he cant breathe, Mr. Damon tries to grow crops and find a way to contact Earth, where NASA thinks hes dead. The Martian, which comes out in November, also took the prize for best slogan of any movie at CinemaCon: Help is only 140 million miles away.

Finally, director Guillermo Del Toro showed up to give a first look at his October gothic horror romance Crimson Peak. Precisely designed props, settings, and, yes, scares were key, said Mr. Del Toro, and he and his team spent eight months making as many in physical form as they could, rather than using digital effects. That includes a four-story mansion especially made for the movie, which stars Tom Hiddleston and Jessica Chastain.

Ask Sam | Sam Smith opens his mailbag | 4.24.2015

The contents of this page have not been reviewed or endorsed by the Chicago Bulls. All opinions expressed by Sam Smith are solely his own and do not reflect the opinions of the Chicago Bulls or its Basketball Operations staff, parent company, partners, or sponsors. His sources are not known to the Bulls and he has no special access to information beyond the access and privileges that go along with being an NBA accredited member of the media.

    By Sam Smith | 4.24.2015 | 10:15 a.m. CT

It is obvious that some turnovers are caused by aggressive passes that perhaps shouldn't have been made. That's basketball. But, it also appears that the Bulls are a little too cavalier with their handling of the ball, especially in the first quarter. Thibs isn't happy. Do you agree?

    William Kochneff

Sam: Thibodeau obviously would be unhappy with your cavalier reference as that suggests looking ahead. The Bulls players do make some shake-your-head turnovers, more so Pau and Noah with those lob or bounce passes inside. Teams have adjusted to Noah not wanting to shoot and lay off him more than they did last season, making his interior passing more difficult. And as Pau isnt a classic power/post player because of his weaker lower body, h**l be outside more and try the high/low. But one reason they are great passers is they try to pass. Here are some of your season leaders in turnovers: Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Isiah Thomas, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash. Like in life, you dont make mistakes unless you try. The best make more mistakes because they try the most. It was one of Jordans most famous comments, that he succeeded because he failed so much. This is what many coaches dont understand, and not just Thibodeau. Most of them have never been high level players or taken the risks to try. The last time Thibodeau or Stan Van Gundy or Erik Spoelstra or Steve Clifford or Mike Budenholzer completed a good pass was probably never. Guys like Noah do. So theyll make bad ones. Theres obviously a balance. Its not that the players dont care. Great talent involves risk; caution often leads to coaching.

For me, this Bulls team is difficult to get a handle on. I cant figure out their identity yet but I guess thats what playoffs are for. Injuries yada yada. In some ways its been the most perplexing team in the last 5 years with more power but seemingly somewhat mismatched (Pau/Jo). I imagine the Cav crucible will go a long way to stamping this team, one way or the other. Yes, jumping ahead but if they lose to the Bucks well thats a different kind of stamp.

    Greg Young

Sam: Ive only seen about 90 games thus far and I never have any idea how they will play or who they are. Game 2 was a great example; they get a big win, a relief of sorts to get that first one, a matchup against an obviously less talented opponent. Come out, jump on them and make your statement. Right? And they come out as listless and ineffective as can be. It is the box of chocolates team, to quote myself and Forrest Gump. Thats why you see and hear the Bulls depicted as they are, basically no one saying they can win the title but everyone saying watch out for them because they could. They have all the appropriate component pieces, star scorers, star big men, passing, rebounding, size, speed, top coaching. But there are flaws other than the injuries. Some guys (like Noah) are out of position a lot, the emphasis is on inside/outside when Gasol isnt the classic post scoring threat, the shooting guard isnt an elite shooter and the point guard is less so but trying. The small forward probably is a more ideal sixth man, which he was for several years before coming to the Bulls. Not exactly square pegs and round holes, but pieces that dont quite always lock into place; basically like whenever I try to put together a kids toy or have a pliers in my hand. Theres always a piece that doesnt fit or left over.

The coach isnt as dedicated to pushing the ball as is the potential of the players, though coaches tend to be more controlling and conservative, especially in this sports era. After all, how many quarterbacks call plays, which once was routine? They actually appear to have wires growing out of their heads to communicate with Mars in the NFL. Sports have become much too scientifically programmedIm off topic hereand taken away from the athletes in too many cases when the athletes know the game so much better. Ive always preferred the John Wooden/Phil Jackson model. Phil would often be criticized for not calling time outs. Hed say he wasnt bailing them out, that there would be times theyd have to figure out how to get through tough times so they should learn. Coaching today is like having your kid home until theyre 40. You show them the way and if you did that correctly theyll be good citizens. You cant protect them from everything. You cant run their lives. The same with coaching in pro sports. Teach them so they can do it for themselves. I feel the Bulls, like NFL games and NBA teams, are too programmed to start, resulting in slow beginnings, and then as the game progresses the players assert more control and you see better play toward the end. Not always, but often. So what was that question? Its a good, but imperfect Bulls team also without a clear identify. Its not as strong defensively with Gasol playing center instead of Noah, but better offensively with Gasol and Rose back. And Rose again working his way back, which has been twice this season. But with more continuity now than perhaps any time this season, maybe they will become a team you can understand. And what better time than now?

I remember how analysts/commentators used to say the Thibs' Bulls weren't good in the playoffs because teams would match how hard they would play, something that wouldn't happen during the regular season because the Bulls always dominated through hard work and effort. They claimed that the Bulls simply didn't have that extra gear come playoff time. Well this year it seems different to me. We lost a lot of games to non-playoff teams and I believe it was because we didn't have our foot on the pedal all year. We would see it occasionally, we did beat all of the elite teams this year. Basically, I can see we have another gear we can get to in the playoffs especially defensively. I'm ready for Butler, Noah and Gibson to pick up their D and hopefully a healthy D Rose will offset what we lose offensively with Butler using a lot of his energy on the defensive end.

    Adam Garcia

Sam: I never fully agreed with that since last year they looked tired against Washington, but when they won 62 games in 2010-11 they didnt so much in going three tough rounds with less talent. Its been part of the genesis of what you have heard about management and Thibodeau this season, which I view and have written about as more philosophy. Thibs prefers extended minutes for his veterans; management said we tried that and while its not your fault guys got hurt, now were trying this. There are justifications for both sides; both believe they are right. The boss has the final word, as we all know from our jobs. Though we dont hear that Other teams elevate and Bulls cannot narrative as much any more. National analysts need shorthand answers because you cant study every team. So that became one for the Bulls. Though when they lost it generally was because they had less talent. Anyway, its not an excuse this time even though the Bulls never used it as one. Regulars like Butler and Gibson missed extended time with injuries. Rose obviously with his surgery. Noah took time off to rest and recover longer than usual. Mirotic and Snell were in and out of the rotation. Hinrich was out as well. And, no, injuries dont replace fatigue from alleged overplay. It should be about talent, and I think the Bulls are satisfied to test theirs.

What's with this guy Popovich? I get some of his grouchiness. I don't believe that coaches should have to make themselves available between quarters for sideline reporters -- that's a bit much. But for a post-game press conference? Come on. I really think that he handles questions as badly as Russell Westbrook and other curmudgeons. I watched him berate a female reporter for asking him what improvements could be made to help the Spurs in their playoff series. She writes about the game, so she may know what improvements should be made, but some of her readers don't; getting it from the horse's mouth, i.e., quotes, is a lot more credible than coming from herself for a lot of said readers. He showed her up and basically acted like she was an idiot. What's worse, Dennis Scott, Brian Shaw, and Rick Kamla all applauded him on NBATV. Shaw said that's how you have to deal with media. Really? Didn't seem to help him out in Denver. Scott said better questions need to be asked; so basically kissing up to the league, because I've never seen him ask an in-depth question when given the opportunity. And I didn't know he majored in journalism, so that's a new one. Popovich may be a great coach and good human being, but he can also a colossal jerk.

    Terrell Bryant

Sam: Youre right. Sometimes Popovich takes the cranky old man act a bit too far. He wasnt always like that, and this whole thing began with his personal protests about coaches having to do sideline interviews and other league mandated actions. Despite a military background in the active Air Force, Popovich is mostly a liberal, help-the-unfortunate, share the wealth sort of guy, which is not too popular in Texas. So he doesnt get into that much. Hes come to enjoy his little cranky reputation and really plays it more for fun than to embarrass or hurt anyone. If he felt he did, he would be the first to apologize and is famous for behind-the-scenes acts of kindness. Ive known him a long time and find him one of my favorite people in basketball. He likes to banter, but does have a suffer-no-fools side. He does like to challenge media, which I enjoy. After all, everyone should be challenged from time to time on their knowledge of their job. You should welcome that. And you are right, the next strong response from some of those TV guys about a coach would be the first. Jeff Van Gundy has sort of become a cartoon figure with his annual 30-way tie for first for coach of the year. But a lot of people dont do their homework and are lazy and Popovich likes to keep them attentive. Asking, So what happened? after the game is not doing your job. An occasional embarrassment is good because if you care about your work and your job youll be more prepared next time, which helps the reader or viewer. Veteran media who have been around awhile will joke with Popovich and hes fun with the back and forth. One time at a press conference I was questioning something with a wry view (unusual for me) and Popovich, feigning anger, swiped at my tape recorder. He accidently hit it, knocking it across the room and into a wall and shattering it. Everyone laughed and it was no big deal. But he privately was devastated. A few days later, I got in the mail a half dozen replacement tape recorders with a years worth of batteries and a bunch of note pads and pens and a plea to forgive. I was just never to tell anyone. Sorry. And by the way, Popovich is the only NBA coach to have a female on his staff.

There is definitely something wrong with NBA journalists. From the "how much one or two games missed by Mirotic could hurt Bulls' title hopes" to the dramatic "is Butler more important than Rose for the Bulls" (seriously?), you just have to admire how graciously Pau Gasol is answering questions. That being said I have to say that I love the Bulls' chances this year. They seem to be more calm, more solid, the wins are more "convincing". The team has both matured in its core and changed in its dynamic (they got firepower). And, yes, Derrick's play is amazingly strong. Should they pass the Bucks, the Cleveland series could be something to watch.

    Hamza Cherief

Sam: Media is often about urgency more than perspective. Its nothing new. That saying about doing things or being provocative to sell newspapers obviously dates back a long time since theres not much to do now to sell newspapers. Theres always been that circus barker demand to try to get people to experience your product. Like newspaper people always said, Hey, I didnt write the headline! Which if it occurs may be one of the best headlines of these playoffs: Bulls and Cavs. The Cavs have been the wagering favorite from the professional bettors coming into these playoffs because of LeBron, which is no surprise. The Bulls have the elements, as its said, on paper to produce the upset. And though with a little bit of Mirotic and Hinrich here and there, the Bulls primary players appear healthier than they have been together all season. The consensus for the Bulls was, if healthy So bring it on, eh? It should be fun.

A few nights ago, the Warriors were up 30 points late in the third quarter. Basically every starter (Curry, etc) were all playing. The Warriors were also up 11 games in the Western Conference. It's a shame Thibs is blamed for what many successful coaches already do.

    Matt Adler

Sam: I see Thibs is using a different nom de plume for the playoffs. Nice touch.

Good morning. All men must die, except Tim Duncan.

That and more in Thursday's NBA newsletter.

Get news, links and Ziller's #hottakes in your inbox every weekday morning.

Good morning. There is a *lot* to cover. Let's basketball.

HOLY S--T: Spurs-Clippers is something else. We all had high hopes for the series. It had exceeded them. San Antonio picked up the Game 2 win in overtime after conceding a lead as hack-a-DeAndre failed to have the desired result. Blake Griffin (who kept dunking) had a turnover that will haunt him to end regulation; Patty Mills had more clutch than a heiress walking out of a Gucci store.

But the story of the game was Tim Duncan, who dominated the first half and hit some gnarly shots late to clinch the win. He finished with 28 points. He will turn 39 on Saturday. He is insane.

Also, Chris Paul had the best mini-tantrum of all time. Of All Time.

GRIT 'N WIN: Memphis is up 2-0. Portland can't do anything against the Grizzlies. (I lied: Nicolas Batum nutmegged Z-Bo. Small victories.) And Damian Lillard is getting totally trounced by Mike Conley. Is ... is Mike Conley mad about the All-Star thing? He seems mad.

IN THE ATL: Hawks vs. Nets has been a surprisingly close series. Here's how Atlanta held off a Game 2 rally by Brooklyn to go up 2-0.

Meanwhile, the Hawks announced that Tony Ressler (an L.A.-based finance guy) is leading the group purchasing the team. Inside Stuff host and former Sprite enthusiast Grant Hill is also a member of the ownership group. No firm numbers released, except that it appears the $1 billion mark was not hit. David Aldridge says $850 million, which includes arena debt.

YIKESVILLE: Kawhi Leonard Crossover Pivot Move To Send J.J. Redick To The Floor.

WELPVILLE: The Mavericks announce Rajon Rondo is out indefinitely with a back injury that is definitely not a cover story for a massive rift between the mercurial point guard and Rick Carlisle nuh uh no way. I mean, Carlisle even told reporters he doesn't expect Rondo to ever wear a Mavericks jersey again.

(Chandler Parsons is out, too, for different reasons.)

Here's Tim Cato on the Night The Rondo Trade Died. Here's Satchel Price explaining why the Rondo era in Dallas went sideways.

OKC U L8R: The Thunder fired Scott Brooks. Here's why.

Kevin Ollie or Billy Donovan are the favorites for the job. Ollie, currently coaching at UConn, was a veteran leader on early Thunder teams; he is adored by Kevin Durant. I think the Thunder pretty much have to hire Kevin Ollie if he's willing to leap, and I think he should absolutely be willing to leap.

LITERALLY THE SPLASH BROTHERS: Jimmy Spencer on the brotherly love between Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

THROUGH THE WALLS: Zito Madu on what John Wall overcame to become a legitimate NBA superstar.

BAD PRECEDENT: TNT sideline reporter Lewis Johnson took off his shoe and sock and drew a big red X on where Mike Conley is suffering from pain on the arch of his foot. Me, I'm just glad Conley doesn't have a sprained a*s.

INTERESTING: Tim Kawakami on how Steph Curry smoothed the transition from Mark Jackson to Steve Kerr and in doing so became an indispensable leader.

THIS IS NOT CONTROVERSIAL: I looked at data to determine whether, over the course of his career, LeBron's Finals runs have been less difficult than those of his contemporaries who play in the West. The results will not surprise you but may lead you to call me names, if the comments and my Twitter mentions are any indication.

#TEXAS: Dwight Howard owns 50 guns and 20 snakes.

OH GOOD: Ratings were not just way down on ABC this season, as TNT also saw fewer NBA viewers. The good news is that teams are watching their local teams more frequently through regional sports networks.

$12 IN MY POCKET: This exit interview with Chris "Birdman" Andersen from the Palm Beach Post is incredible.

PRAY BE UNTO BALL MOVEMENT: The gospel of Coach Bud, by Kevin Arnovitz.

Happy Thursday. See you next time.

Spurs vs. Clippers Game 2 results, NBA playoffs 2015: Tim Duncan leads Spurs ...

San Antonio evens the series 1-1 with a classic game of playoff basketball.

Everyone knew this series would be the headliner of the first round. Not to take away from the other series, but Spurs-Clippers had "classic" potential -- two championship-level teams matching up in round one, trading punches until one finally bowed out.

In Game 2 on Wednesday, it was the Spurs who outlasted Los Angeles in an overtime death match, 111-107. Blake Griffin's triple double -- 29 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists -- fell short a vintage Tim Duncan game, who played 44 minutes while recording 28 points, 11 rebounds and 14-of-23 shooting.

With the Spurs up 88-80, J.J. Redick nailed a huge three-pointer sprinting to his left, ending a Spurs' run that felt like it could quickly balloon into double figures. San Antonio resorted to hack-a-DeAndre Jordan in the following, but after failing to score on the other end, Los Angeles crept back into the game and finally took an 94-92 lead with less than a minute to play.

Griffin had a chance for put the game away, but the ball slipped out of his hands in an isolation situation. With seconds left in the game, Patty Mills was fouled and tied it up at 94 with two free throws. Chris Paul couldn't nail a potential game-winning stepback jumper, setting up five minutes of free basketball.

The overtime period bounced back and forth, but tied at 101, Duncan hit one of those classic running one-handers he has made his entire career. This time, it put the Spurs up for good.

On the next play, Griffin turned it over and Mills slipped out past the defense, finding himself all alone for a layup on the other end. Even then, the Clippers didn't go away quietly. Paul hit a three-pointer and after a Duncan miss, J.J. Redick got an open transition look that could have tied it. It rimmed out by a fraction of an inch.

It was enough for the Spurs to even the series 1-1 as they head back to San Antonio for Game 3.

Here's three things we learned from the game.

    1. This really is the marquee matchup of the first round

Every series in the 2015 sits at 2-0 but this one. Both of these teams are title contenders and sadly -- for them -- one will be sitting home after only one round. For those watching at home, though, this is thrilling. An overtime game with huge implications and classic plays from both sides? Sign us up for five more of these, please and thank you.

    2. Tim Duncan is still undefeated against Father Time

How does he keep doing it? Duncan, who turns 39 this week, rattled off an incredible game. For 18 years, he has been using the same moves and tricks. On Wednesday, it didn't look like he'd ever slow down.

Coming into this series, Duncan was supposed to be the mismatched one. DeAndre Jordan is a physical monster and in theory has the tools to overpower him on both ends. Somehow, old man Duncan somehow keeps finding ways to hold his own.

    3. Hack-a-Jordan has hidden consequences

In five trips starting with slightly less than five minutes to play, Jordan split his attempts, going 4-of-10 from the stripe. For a player shooting less than 40 percent this season, it's clear hack-a-whoever will work for you, mathematically speaking.

But in a fourth quarter dominated by Popovich playing that strategy, it's clear there are disadvantages to the plan too. San Antonio allowed three offensive rebounds off those missed free throws. Each trip gave the Los Angeles starters -- four who played 39 minutes or more -- a chance to catch their breath and set up their defense on the other end. Ignoring the morality arguments of whether the strategy is "right," there are certainly other concerns about whether it's a viable defensive plan for teams going forward.

Why we can't show you those alleged Bruce Jenner dress photos

    This post has been updated.

First things first: Morning Mix is not going to show you photos that recently surfaced allegedly showing Bruce Jenner in a dress. At least for part of the day, you might have seen them courtesy the New York Daily News.(Tempted to check them out? Its okay to be curious. Go ahead navigate away from washingtonpost.com, then come back. If the Daily News has taken down their link, as they appeared to early Wednesday, you can see the photos here or here. Satisfied? Okay. Lets proceed.)

So: Why wont The Post show you these photos and why has the Daily News asked some Web sites to remove images that it exclusively secured? Jenner, a legendary Olympian and reality-show star in the middle of what appears to be a gender transition, is a public figure. Such photos are arguably newsworthy Jenner is in what seems like an endless publicity push ahead of an interview with Diane Sawyer set to air on Friday. And people, at least some people, probably would want to see them.

[Bruce Jenner, Diane Sawyer interview will be two-hour special April 24]

But there are a number of problems journalistic, legal and maybe ethical with showing just any old photos that surface of someone purportedto be Bruce Jenner in a dress. Among them:

    1. Is that really Bruce Jenner in a dress?

While Jenner hasnt publicly commented on the dress photos, there are credible reports that he called police on the paparazzi who allegedly took them. This might lead a reporter to assume that, if Jenner called the Los Angeles County Sheriff on photographers allegedly using unlawful methods (more on those later) to photograph him allegedly wearing a fetching black-and-white ensemble with horizontal stripes, the photos published by the New York Daily News shortly following said call are the real McCoy.

But: What if theyre not? The Fourth Estate doesnt like to engage in libel and, more to the point, make itself vulnerable to defamation or invasion of privacy lawsuits. Had Jenner confirmed his penchant for horizontal stripes tweeted, Instagrammed, Facebook-ed, issued a statement through a spokesman this would be a very different kind of article.

[Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge: The dangers of plumping that pout]

    2. The photos appeared in the New York Daily News.

Let nothing that follows be taken as a slight on the character of the New York Daily News. Its been around since 1919. It was Americas first tabloid. Its editorial board won a Pulitzer for a series about Sept. 11 victims. And if nothing else, these guys make a great front page. But lets face it: The Daily News is not the New York Times. This is a paper that wrote the headline House of Turds for a story about Congresss role in the 2013 government shutdown.

Does that mean the Daily News isnt trustworthy? Of course not but as of early Wednesday, it seemed to be the only publication out there with those alleged Bruce Jenner dress photos on its Web site. (Some snatched the photos from Twitter and areembedding them, still a risky proposition more on this later.) So:If the alleged photos of Jenner had appeared (or had been picked up by) a different publication and, preferably, publications the New York Times, Reuters, the Associated Press this would be a very different kind of article.

    3. The photos might have been taken illegally.

California home to or stomping ground of many a celebrity harboring intense hatred of the paparazzi, including but not limited to Sean Penn, Jennifer Garner,Matthew McConaughey and Kanye West tolerates photographers hounding the uber-famous for snapshots, but just barely. There are a number of laws that govern the behavior of someone who really wants to, say, take a picture of Britney Spearsemerging from a limousine with no underwear. Since 2013, for example, its been against the law to take photos of a public figures child.

More relevant to Jenner: Since 1998, the law allowsphotographers to be found liable for invasion of privacy if it is proved that they trespassed or used telephoto lenses to capture images of people engaging in personal or familial activity, and provides for hefty damage awards against both photographers and their organizations, as the very trustworthy New York Times reported at the time. And allegations have surfaced that those who allegedly shot the alleged Jenner photos did indeed use telephoto lenses.

The photographers were camped out on a nearby hillside using telephoto lenses to snap pictures of Bruce in his private space, which is illegal, according toYahoo, which did not publish the photos. Jenner could likely get a restraining order against those paparazzi or sue if he wants.

But its not just the fellows camped out on the hillside with fancy camera gear who are liable: Its the papers they work for.

CNN, which did not have the right to broadcast the dress photograph, has received flak for airing the controversial shot in what seems a thinly veiled effort to scoop rival ABC, Yahoo wrote. Don Lemon used it to lead a panel discussion for the segment Caught on Camera: Bruce Jenners New Look? to discuss what Jenners revelation means for the transgender community.

If the photos had been taken at a Jenner-approved photo shoot or at least on public property this would be a very different kind of article.

    4. What if Bruce Jenner doesnt want us to see photos of him in a dress?

Kim Kardashian Jenners stepdaughter is not the foremost authority on transgender issues. Yet, in a recent Entertainment Tonight interview, she offered some words of wisdom.

I think everyone goes through things in life, and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think h**l share whenever the time is right, she said. I feel like thats his journey to talk about.

Sure: Bruce Jenner is a public figure. But he is not President Obama or Edward Snowden or perhaps a more relevant example Chelsea Manning. And, since nothing about Bruce Jenner (or the Kardashians, for that matter) is vital to national security, its hard to claim questionably obtained, possibly embarrassing images of him are vital to the public interest. No matter how much anyone wants to see that dress.

    UPDATE:

Reached for comment, Sharon Waxman, editor of the Wrap which posted a CNN video of the photos said the Web site took down the video at the request of the New York Daily News.

My understanding is the Daily News counsel wrote to say they had licensed the photos exclusively, Waxman wrote. I believe CNN used them in error, and we picked it up from there. We took the photos down as soon as we were notified.

The New York Daily News and Mediaite, which also took down the images, were not immediately available for comment.
