Monica Lewinsky delivers TED Talk, speaks out against cyberbullying

After many years out of the limelight, Monica Lewinsky appeared on stage Thursday to deliver a TED Talk in Vancouver, titled, "The Price of Shame."

Lewinsky, who gained notoriety in the late 90s for her high-profile affair with former President Bill Clinton while she was a White House intern, addressed her point very quickly.

"At the age of 22, I fell in love with my boss. And at the age of 24, I learned the devastating consequences, she said.

She focused on the issues of cyberbullying and public shaming, spending the 20-minute TED in front of nearly 1,400 audience members urging compassion over negativity, Today reports. View a clip of the speech below.

Lewsinky discussed her own experiences as a victim of cyberbullying, stating, "Now I admit I made mistakes especially wearing that beret but the attention and judgment that I received not the story, but that I personally received was unprecedented.

She continued, "I was branded as a tramp, tart, s**t, w***e, bimbo and, of course, 'that woman.' I was known by many, but actually known by few. I get it. It was easy to forget 'that woman' was dimensional and had a soul."

Lewinsky said that public shaming as a blood sport needs to stop and suggested that it has even involved into an online industry.

"A marketplace has emerged where public humiliation is a commodity," she said. "How is the money made? Clicks."

During the speech, she reached out to others who may be going through what she went through decades ago.

"Anyone who is suffering from pain and humiliation needs to know one thing: you can survive it,'' she said. "I know it's hard. It may not be painless, quick or easy, but you can insist on a different ending to your story."

Business Insider reports that Lewinskys speech not only received a standing ovation and moved some people to tears, but investor Chris Sacca even called it "one of the best ever TED Talks.
