Kathy Griffin stirred the pot and may have put the future of E! Networks Fashion Police in jeopardy when she announced that she would be leaving the show after only a few episodes, and yet, the comedian reportedly claims that she is shocked by the publics reaction to her leaving the show.
According to a previous report by the Inquisitr, Kathy Griffin left the popular show, Fashion Police, after only seven episodes. The 54-year-old comedian reportedly took to social media to address the situation with a photo that included a message to fans.
When I chose to step into the shoes of my beloved friend Joan Rivers at Fashion Police, I was thrilled to continue her legacy as a woman being brash and eccentric on television. I am a freedom-loving female and gay rights activist who loves to find the funny in all people, attitudes, beliefs, and appearances, but only when the context permits intelligent humor. I thought that I could bring my brand of humor to Fashion Police so that beautiful people in beautiful dresses could be teased when appropriate. My brand of humor, while unrepentant and unafraid, is all about CONTEXT. There is plenty to make fun of in pop culture without bringing peoples bodies into it.
Griffin goes on to reiterate that while she is a woman who loves an offensive joke, she does not want to use her comedy to make people feel bad about who they are or what they look like. That being said, Griffin goes on to say that after seven episodes of Fashion Police she discovered that her style of comedy does not fit with the creative direction of the show and that it was time for her to move on.
Understandably, many were shocked by Kathy Griffins announcement, especially considering it came so soon after Kelly Osbourne left the show after the Giuliana Rancic/Zendaya controversy. According to Us Weekly, Griffin stated that she was shocked that so many people are responding to her leaving the show.
Im surprised that people are so invested in this show. But I shouldnt be because Joan [Rivers] was so incredible and amazing, and it just wasnt the right thing for me.
People went on to quote the comedian, who addressed the issue during her Friday show in Waterbury, Connecticut.
It just didnt work out. Thats it. Thats the scandal. However, Hollywood, of course, enjoys blowing something up.
Since news broke of Kathy Griffins departure from E! Networks Fashion Police, the big question is whether or not the show will be able to continue following all the drama in the past few weeks.
