Divorce cake ideas for Giada De Laurentiis

Chef and reality TV starGiada De Laurentiis took to Facebook to announce her divorce on Tuesday. She married designer Todd Thompson in 2003.

After an amicable separation since July, Todd and I have decided to end our marriage, she wrote. Although our decision to separate comes with a great deal of sadness, our focus on the future and overwhelming desire for our familys happiness has given us the strength to move forward on separate, yet always connected paths.

Giada De Laurentiis announces her divorce on Facebook.

De Laurentiis, the 44-year-old host of cooking shows such as Giada at Home, and Thompson have one daughter. In 2011, she told Redbook that she often cooked for her soon-to-be ex.

I think it can be hard for any man to sometimes be upstaged by his wife, she said. So when Im home, I work very hard to be Todds wife and Jades mother. I have no problem going back to those traditional roles. I try to be Giada, the young girl that he met 20 years ago and fell in love with. All men want to be treated like kings in a relationship, and I think if women dont indulge that sometimes, their men are likely to stray and look for someone who can give that to them. Its simple. Its not brain surgery.

AsDe Laurentiis is known to love decadent Italian desserts, she may wish to try out a new trend in her time of trouble: the divorce cake. As the New York Times noted earlier this year: Event planners, bakers, lawyers and academics note the rise of divorce parties over the last several years, many with cakes featuring weapon-wielding brides or gloomy black frosting on inverted tiers. AndMental Floss was pushing the trend two years ago: With so many marriages not lasting forever, the market for divorce cakes is alive and well.
