AC/DC Rock the GRAMMYs with Opening Medley Performance

By Kevin Rutherford

The 57th AnnualGRAMMYsstarted off with quite the bang.

As rumored before the show, AC/DC kicked off the GRAMMYs with a rollicking medley of their hits, starting with new single Rock or Bust from their brand new album of the same name.

Calling it a no-frills performance might be inaccurateafter all, guitarist Angus Young has always been quite the showman, and there were plenty of pyrotechnics to assist with the bombastic showing.

After getting a taste of AC/DC in 2015, we went back to the late 70s with Highway to h**l. For the occasion, the GRAMMYs handed out light-up devil horns for the crowd, with regular attendees and stars like Katy Perry alike donning them.

It all ended with an electrifying solo at center stage from Young. It was a triumphant performance for the band despite usual members Phil Rudd and Malcolm Young not being in attendance; Young has left the band after being diagnosed with dementia, while Rudd was absent in the midst of his trial for alleged threatening to kill and drug charges. Youngs nephew Stevie Young and Chris Slade filled in on rhythm guitar and drums, respectivelythe former currently as a full-time member.

Shortly after the performance, Sam Smith won the first award of the night for Best New Artist.
